YouTube is beginning to globally roll out a significant visual update that changes the appearance of the video player and how users interact with content. The new design looks more modern, with its execution partly resembling Apple’s Liquid Glass design language, which the tech giant introduced with iOS 26. The changes apply to the mobile app, web version, and TV devices.

Cleaner Player with Fewer Distractions

According to the official announcement from the YouTube team, the video platform is getting a completely redesigned player that offers an immersive viewing experience. The company states that the new controls and icons are designed to obscure less content while providing a more visually pleasing environment.

Also part of the update is an improved double-tap to skip function. This now appears more modern and less intrusive during video playback. On mobile devices, YouTube is adding smoother transitions between tabs thanks to more refined motion design.

Animated Reactions Based on Content Type

Among the most interesting new features are dynamic like button animations that change according to the content being watched. When a user “likes” a music video, a music note animation will play. For sports videos, visual elements related to the specific sport will appear. This feature will not yet be available for all videos.

YouTube is also modernizing the way videos are saved to playlists and the “Watch Later” list. The new design simplifies the entire process and adds visual confirmation of successful content saving.

Structured Comments for Better Conversations

The comments section is undergoing a significant change, receiving a threaded reply system. This structured approach is intended to facilitate following conversations and provide more focused reading in the reply panel. The change should significantly improve navigation in discussions below videos.
