Youtuber had to go to the hospital due to a faulty Galaxy Ring

Samsung relatively recently expanded its range of wearable electronics with the smart ring Galaxy Ring. It is a fairly specialized device focused on monitoring vital signs. It lacks payment options or notification alerts, but it can be used to control a mobile phone via gestures.

However, this smart ring caused considerable trouble for British Youtuber Daniel Rotar, known by the nickname @ZONEofTECH. On his X (Twitter) account, he published his experiences with the ring, which, according to him, had been behaving unusually for some time. The battery, instead of the declared 5–7 days, only lasted about 1–2 days. Eventually, the battery swelled and the Galaxy Ring could not be removed.

Moreover, this happened at a very inconvenient moment, just before boarding a plane. Ultimately, he was not allowed on the plane at all due to concerns about a potential fire, and Daniel had to go to the hospital, where the ring was removed. Besides swelling, a mark from the worn ring remained on his finger.

According to Daniel, Samsung is directly interested in the case, having paid for his hotel stay and arranged transportation. They took the ring for further examination. Samsung has not yet issued an official statement.

Interestingly, Samsung explicitly states in the manual how to remove the ring from the finger by cutting it, if necessary. The cut must be made in a specific spot to avoid damaging the battery.

One can only hope that these are isolated issues, although more posts can be found on Reddit where users complain about battery problems. Given that airlines are becoming increasingly cautious, for example, regarding power banks, no incident that reduces confidence in batteries used in smart devices is good.
