4 reasons why I would buy the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. One will surprise you

  • The 9,210 mAh battery lasted two to three days in my test, eliminating the need for evening charging
  • The fourth reason doesn't concern hardware, but software – and I wouldn't have expected it from Xiaomi
  • With a discount code, it costs 10,699 CZK until October 18th; the regular price is 12,499 CZK

In my review, I didn’t exactly spare the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. A weaker chip than its predecessor, a camera without a telephoto lens, a bunch of pre-installed apps. Yet, it’s a phone I would buy under certain conditions and recommend to people who primarily want peace of mind from their mobile device. I have four reasons for this, and the last one even surprised me.

1. You’ll remember your charger twice a week

The 9,210 mAh battery is the reason this phone exists at all. For comparison: Samsung Galaxy A57 has 5,000 mAh, the previous Redmi Note 15 Pro+ had 6,500 mAh. In my test, it lasted two to three days, and I soon stopped worrying about the battery percentage in the corner of the display.

If the power does run out, 100W charging helps: a third of the battery capacity is restored in fifteen minutes, which is enough for a whole day. Additionally, the phone can charge headphones or another mobile device via cable with 27W of power. The only drawback is that Xiaomi did not include the adapter in the Czech box.

2. No expense spared on the display

The mid-range often saves on the screen. Not here. The AMOLED panel with a 6.83″ diagonal, 1.5K resolution, and 120 Hz refresh rate has the same parameters as the display of the more expensive POCO X8 Pro Max, supports Dolby Vision, and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

In my experience, it’s easily readable even in direct sunlight, and in the evening, it can be dimmed so it doesn’t disturb even in a darkened bedroom. More sensitive eyes will appreciate the 3,840 Hz dimming, which reduces flickering at low brightness.

3. It’s durable, and if not, repairs are free

The back is made of plastic, and that’s a good thing. Plastic doesn’t crack, so according to SGS certification, the phone is designed to survive a three-meter drop onto granite. Plus, it has IP66 and IP68 protection, allowing submersion up to two meters. I don’t recommend testing it, but it’s nice to know that the first fall from your pocket onto the pavement doesn’t have to end up in a service center.

And if it does end up there, Xiaomi adds one free display replacement within two years and one free battery replacement within three years for phones purchased by October 18th. You just need to register within 14 days of purchase. Along with six years of security patches, this makes it a phone you can count on for a long time.

4. Artificial intelligence speaks Czech

I didn’t expect this. Software is often a chapter that reviewers dismiss with a sigh when it comes to Xiaomi, and there are more than enough unnecessary apps here too. However, the HyperAI suite in HyperOS 3 works in Czech: subtitles, transcription of recordings, a translator, and a text writing assistant.

For a phone around ten thousand, I would expect a few English demos for effect, not tools that can be used in a meeting or on vacation. Gemini and Google’s Circle to Search are also available.

To be clear: it’s not for everyone

Four reasons are enough for me, but they might not be for you. Those who play demanding games or want to bring back telephoto lens photos from vacation should look elsewhere. Perhaps at the POCO X8 Pro Max, which offers significantly more performance for similar money.

Price also plays a role. The official 12,499 CZK is a lot for a phone with an average chip. However, with an introductory code, it comes out to 10,699 CZK until October 18th, and at the time of writing, it could be found in some stores for just under ten thousand. That’s where it starts to make sense.

Which of these four reasons would convince you?
