4K Philips TV with a free soundbar for 8 thousand? Such a deal hasn't been here for a long time!

Not everyone needs an OLED panel for fifty thousand in their living room. Sometimes you just want a TV for the bedroom, children’s room, or a cottage, where it won’t play the main role, but will simply work. And for such cases, the 55″ Philips 55PUS7000, now on sale at Alza for 8,043 CZK with code ALZADNY30 instead of the original 11,490 CZK, might make sense. A bonus is the free Philips TAB4000/10 soundbar, which significantly improves the sound compared to the built-in speakers.

What you get for those eight thousand

The Philips 55PUS7000 offers a 55″ diagonal with 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840 × 2160 pixels) and Direct LED technology. Local dimming, as found in more expensive models, is naturally absent here, but at least uniform backlighting across the entire surface is a plus. The panel supports HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG, which theoretically ensures better contrast and more vibrant colors. In practice, however, this depends on the panel’s brightness – a maximum brightness of 250 cd/m² is the lower limit of usability in well-lit rooms.

A refresh rate of 50/60 Hz isn’t something that will impress demanding gamers, but it’s sufficient for casual movie and series watching. You have access to GAME MODE, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), and Cloud gaming, so if you plan occasional gaming on a console or via cloud services, basic comfort is there.

Smart features are provided by the Titan OS operating system, which offers access to Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and other services. You have WiFi, Bluetooth, and DLNA available for connecting with other devices.

Sound: 20W speakers aren’t enough, which is why a soundbar makes sense

Philips tries to impress on paper with support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Dolby Digital AC4. In practice, however, the built-in 20W speakers cannot create immersive surround sound that would envelop you like in a cinema. This is not a criticism of this particular TV – no flat TV with built-in speakers, especially at this price, can truly achieve it. That’s why the included soundbar is a valuable bonus.

The Philips TAB4000/10 offers two-channel sound with a maximum output of 60 W (nominal output 30 W). It has HDMI ARC connectivity for easy connection to the TV and Bluetooth 5.4 for wireless streaming from a phone or tablet. The frequency range of 80–20,000 Hz covers the audible spectrum, and the built-in equalizer offers four preset modes (music, movie, speech, sport).

The soundbar normally costs 1,810 CZK, so if you were to buy it separately, you’re essentially getting it for free with this deal. And the difference in sound compared to the 20W speakers in the TV is noticeable – especially for dialogue in movies and series.

Realistic expectations: this is not a premium TV

Let’s be honest – don’t expect a top-tier picture for eight thousand. Direct LED without local dimming means that black isn’t truly black, but rather dark gray. Viewing angles are not ideal, so if you watch from the side, colors will fade. The maximum brightness of 250 cd/m² is weak compared to premium models that achieve 1000+ cd/m².

A 60 Hz refresh rate is fine for movies and series, but if you play fast-paced action games on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, you’ll notice a difference compared to 120Hz panels. While VRR helps with smoothness, it’s not an ideal choice for demanding gamers.

Who it makes sense for

I do not recommend the Philips 55PUS7000 as the main TV for the living room if you watch a lot of movies and series or play games. But there are many situations where it makes perfect sense:

Second TV for the bedroom – Evening Netflix viewing in bed doesn’t require an OLED panel for fifty thousand. A 4K picture and solid sound from a soundbar are sufficient.

Children’s room – Kids will watch YouTube or Disney+ anyway and don’t care about viewing angle quality. And if a friend comes over for console gaming, the basic game mode is there.

Cottage or holiday home – Occasional news watching or an evening movie doesn’t require cutting-edge technology. And if you won’t be using the TV for half a year, you won won’t worry about having an expensive piece of equipment sitting there.

Apartment rental – If you’re furnishing an apartment for Airbnb or long-term rental, a 55″ TV with a soundbar for eight thousand is a reasonable investment.

Verdict: a solid second TV for eight thousand

The Philips 55PUS7000 is not a TV that will impress you with top-tier picture quality or precise sound. But for 8,043 CZK including a soundbar, it’s a reasonable choice for situations where you don’t need premium quality. If you’re looking for a second TV for your home, cottage, or children’s room, this deal makes sense.
