We recently wrote about how enthusiasts disassembled the Whoop band to make it work without paying. Now a simpler solution is emerging — the Luna Band targets the same group of users, with the difference that it requires no subscription at all. After a limited pre-sale phase, the band has entered global distribution.

Twenty-four grams without a display

The band weighs 24 grams and intentionally lacks a display — thus it cannot disturb with notifications, which is quite logical for a device designed to measure sleep and strain. The sensors cover heart rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygenation, complemented by an accelerometer with a gyroscope. The manufacturer promises over 60 sports modes, automatic recognition of five activity types, VO2 max estimation, and training load tracking. 5ATM water resistance also allows for swimming.

A platform to connect everything

At the core of the offering is the LifeOS system. It is designed to compile personalized recommendations for sleep, stress, training, food, dietary supplements, and caffeine intake from collected data, with information being enterable by voice. It can be expanded with so-called Micro Apps. This sounds ambitious — and precisely why caution is warranted. How accurate these calculations actually are has not yet been verified by any independent test, and a recent comparison showed that even established brands like Samsung or Garmin do not perform particularly well in estimating burned calories.

Where it pays off

The price is 149 euros (approximately 3,650 CZK), the package includes a charger and cable, and you can choose from three colors. A comparison with competitors speaks for itself: Whoop costs 199 to 359 dollars annually, Fitbit charges 9.99 dollars monthly. You pay for the Luna Band once, and you get basic features without additional fees. It is sold through the manufacturer’s own e-shop.

Would you prefer a one-time payment over a subscription, even at the cost of a lesser-known brand?
