Why this monitor is interesting

LG introduced the 27G610A-B model to the Czech market in January for 4,490 CZK. In the previous promotion, the price dropped to 3,990 CZK, and with code ALZADNY20, the monitor now costs 3,499 CZK. Compared to the launch price, you will pay almost a thousand less, and so far, this is the lowest price at which it has been sold.

The LG UltraGear 27G610A-B monitor belongs to the entry-level class of gaming QHD monitors. However, it offers a combination that was difficult to find at this price until recently: 27 inches, QHD, and 200 Hz on an IPS panel. In addition, it features a fully adjustable stand, a common weakness of inexpensive monitors. On Alza, it has a rating of 4.9 out of 5 (21 ratings).

Key parameters explained simply

A resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels on 27 inches means sharper text and more space for side-by-side windows compared to Full HD on the same diagonal. The 200 Hz refresh rate will be noticeable mainly in fast-paced games, such as shooters or racing games. Camera movement feels smoother, and you can track opponents better.

Alza states a response time of 0.01 ms in the description, but the manufacturer specifies 1 ms GtG (gray-to-gray transition) in Faster Mode. You can enable this in the Game Adjust menu. For an IPS panel in this price range, this is a good value. Smoothness is complemented by AMD FreeSync Premium; according to LG, the monitor also functions as NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible. If the graphics card cannot keep up with 200 frames per second, the monitor adapts, and the image does not tear.

Colors cover 99% of the sRGB space, which is sufficient for games, movies, and basic photo editing for the web. The monitor has a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m² and VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. However, this represents the lowest level of HDR, more details on that below. For longer work, Low Blue Light and Flicker-Free modes are available to prevent backlight flickering.

Practical aspects: stand, ports, and connectivity

The stand offers height adjustment, tilt, swivel, and 90° pivot. This allows you to adjust the monitor to eye level and rotate it vertically, for example, for reading documents or code. LG uses an L-shaped stand, which takes up less space on the desk. If you prefer an arm, you will find VESA 100 × 100 mounting on the back.

The monitor has DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports. For a full 200 Hz from your computer, expect to connect via DisplayPort. HDMI 2.0 is an older standard with lower bandwidth, and LG specifies 200 Hz with a graphics card featuring DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1. Therefore, check the cable when purchasing.

For 200 Hz in QHD resolution to be useful, you need a graphics card that can handle such a frame rate. In competitive games like Counter-Strike or Valorant, you’ll achieve it more easily. In demanding AAA titles, you’ll usually be lower, and FreeSync will compensate for the difference.

What to watch out for

Consider HDR here as a bonus, not a reason to buy. DisplayHDR 400 certification means brightness around 400 cd/m² without local dimming of the backlight. Bright scenes will stand out, but don’t expect the contrast between dark and light that you know from OLED or Mini LED panels. In practice, the SDR mode with well-adjusted colors often looks better.

The IPS panel has a static contrast of 1000:1. Therefore, in a dark room, black appears more like dark gray, and slight backlight bleed may appear in the corners of IPS panels. In a bright room and during the day, you won’t notice it. Unlike monitors from other brands, this model has a 24-month warranty; for a longer warranty, you have to pay extra on Alza.

When it doesn’t make sense

If you mainly play in the dark in the evening and value deep blacks, opt for an OLED monitor. However, you’ll be in a different price category. If you have a weaker graphics card that can’t even handle 100 frames per second in QHD, you’ll only utilize a fraction of the 200 Hz. For similar money, a Full HD monitor with a high refresh rate might then make more sense.

Compared to the January price of 4,490 CZK, you save almost a thousand. If your main concern is HDR and contrast, prepare a larger budget.
