Affordable phones have undergone significant evolution in recent years. While previously you could buy a device for three thousand that was barely usable, recently the offer has become quite interesting. During sales, you can get phones with large batteries, solid displays, and relatively usable cameras. However, Xiaomi is preparing the Redmi 15 5G model, which could shake things up more than usual.

According to leaks, the biggest surprise is the 6.9″ display with Full HD+ resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate. This is a noticeable step up from previous Redmi series models – until now, we were used to HD+ resolution and a maximum 120Hz refresh rate.

Higher-class processor, but with a catch

Another upgrade is the deployment of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor. This is also a step up from the typical equipment of phones in this series, which commonly used Snapdragon 4 series chipsets, or weak Helio Gxx. However, it should be added that Qualcomm introduced this chipset recently without much fanfare, and for good reason.

The Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is actually just an overclocked version of the older Snapdragon 695 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chips from 2021. It is a 6nm chipset from TSMC with two powerful Cortex A78 cores clocked up to 2.3 GHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked up to 2.0 GHz. The processor thus received only a slight frequency increase compared to its predecessors.

This chipset should be complemented in the Redmi 15 5G with up to 8 GB of RAM and storage up to 256 GB.

Record-breaking 7000mAh battery

According to leaked information, the phone is to be launched with the marketing slogan “One Charge. Two days. Zero Worries.” (One charge. Two days. No worries.), which indicates an emphasis on battery life. And indeed – the specifications speak of a massive 7,000mAh battery, a capacity surpassed in Xiaomi’s portfolio by only two higher-end models – Redmi Turbo 4 Pro and Redmi K80 Ultra.

However, the charging power at 33W is rather average. Therefore, fully charging such a large battery will take quite a long time, but as the manufacturer suggests, you will probably only need to charge it once every two days.

Camera remains basic

There will be no revolution in the camera department. The main 50Mpx sensor will be complemented only by a 2Mpx auxiliary lens, likely for macro or depth of field. The front selfie camera will offer 8 Mpx. On the other hand, according to the leak, the phone will offer NFC, which is not a given for all models and in all markets.

Availability and price

Leaked information suggests a price of 699-750 RM, indicating the leak originated from Malaysia. Converted, this corresponds to approximately 3,800 to 4,100 CZK, which would mean a very attractive price point given the offered specifications. However, it is important to remember that Xiaomi usually introduces different variants of a single phone, depending on the market.

Personally, I would be very surprised if such a well-equipped phone came to the Czech Republic with a price under 4 thousand, but hope dies last…

What do you think about the price/performance ratio of the upcoming Redmi 15 5G?
