A soundbar under the TV can only mimic sound behind you. Anyone who wants explosions and footsteps to truly come from behind needs rear speakers – and Sony includes them with the Bravia Theatre System 6. Alza has now discounted the entire system to 9,990 CZK, and you don’t need any discount code for it. It was similarly priced last Black Friday, and the retailer hasn’t offered it at a better price since December 2025.

Quick summary:
✅ It makes sense if you want 5.1 surround sound with real rear speakers for your TV and don’t want to deal with an AV receiver.
⚠️ Consider that the system doesn’t have Wi-Fi, you can only send music to it via Bluetooth, and you have to connect a gaming console directly to the TV.
💡 For 9,990 CZK you get a soundbar, subwoofer, and two rear speakers, which cost 13,249 CZK just last week.

Five channels, ten speakers, and 1,000 W of power

Theatre System 6 is a 5.1 system. The soundbar handles the left, right, and center channels, two separate speakers play from the rear, and the subwoofer takes care of the bass. Sony states a total output of 1,000 W and ten speaker units. There’s a voice mode for dialogues and a night mode for late evenings.

Via HDMI eARC, the system accepts both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, but don’t expect much in terms of overhead sound. No speaker is directed towards the ceiling; Sony only calculates the height component using Vertical Surround Engine technology. Thus, true spatial sound is mainly created to the sides and rear, while the overhead effect is virtual.

According to Sony, the soundbar is 90.7 cm wide and only 6.4 cm high, so it shouldn’t obscure the bottom edge of the picture. The subwoofer takes up more space: it measures 27.5 × 38.8 × 38.8 cm and weighs 11.6 kg.

Wireless rear speakers are only half-wireless

Expect more cables than the description might suggest. According to Sony’s specifications, the subwoofer is connected to the soundbar by cable, and according to one customer, it serves as the main unit of the entire system. The rear speakers, in turn, connect via cable to a small wireless amplifier (17.5 × 17.5 cm) with its own power supply, so you’ll need an outlet for it too. Thus, only the signal to this amplifier is wireless. One Alza customer also points out that the cables for the rear speakers are approximately 5 meters long.

Setup and control are handled by the Sony BRAVIA Connect app, but one customer complains that it’s only in English. Owners of Sony Bravia TVs also get quick setup directly in the TV menu and the Voice Zoom 3 function, which, according to Sony, can enhance dialogues. You won’t be able to use these features with a TV of a different brand.

What about Wi-Fi and HDMI?

This is probably the most important limitation, as the description on Alza claims otherwise. Sony’s specifications only list Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC and AAC codecs; Wi-Fi, AirPlay, and Chromecast are not mentioned. Customers agree with this: you can only play music from your phone via Bluetooth, and multiroom audio over a home network is out of the question.

The system has a single HDMI port, which is used to connect to the TV. Sound from the TV therefore works without problems: you plug the cable into the TV’s port labeled ARC or eARC, and the TV sends sound to the soundbar through it. This means everything you play on the TV works – broadcasts, apps like Netflix, and devices connected to the TV. Furthermore, you control the volume with the TV remote.

Only an HDMI input for other devices is missing. More expensive soundbars, such as the Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 8 and 9, have an additional input next to the TV port. You connect a gaming console or player to it, the soundbar takes the audio from the signal and sends the video to the TV. This is especially useful for TVs with few HDMI ports or older TVs that don’t pass through the highest quality formats via regular ARC. With the Theatre System 6, you connect the console or set-top box directly to the TV, and the sound returns to the soundbar via eARC. Functions like VRR or ALLM are then handled by the TV, not the soundbar.

For an older TV without ARC, the system connects via an optical cable or a 3.5 mm analog input. According to Sony, Dolby Digital Plus, even with Atmos, can pass through optical, but Dolby TrueHD and DTS:X only via HDMI eARC. The display mentioned in Alza’s description is not present on the system, according to an Expert Reviews review, which states that the missing display is replaced by the app.

Customers mainly praise the bass, but residents in apartment buildings turn it down

On Alza, the system has a rating of 4.9 out of 5 from 53 customers, and 94% of them recommend it. Over 1,000 units have been sold, and the return rate is only 0.66%. The bass is praised in 17 out of 28 written reviews. However, two owners from apartment buildings admit they lowered it by two to four levels in the app.

Complaints mostly concern details. Two customers point out that the soundbar has Sound Field mode enabled by default and only offers pure stereo after it’s turned off. One customer describes a slow response when changing volume, while another notes that the automatic shutdown after 20 minutes reactivates after a power outage. Two customers also miss more pronounced treble.

For 9,990 CZK for those who want sound from behind

The Theatre System 6 will best serve those who want true surround sound for watching movies and don’t want to assemble a system from an AV receiver and separate speakers. For 9,990 CZK, they will get a complete 5.1 system with powerful bass. It makes the most sense with a Sony Bravia TV, where it also offers quick setup from the TV menu.

However, if you want to use the soundbar as a smart speaker for music via Wi-Fi, or if you live in a small apartment with thin walls, look elsewhere. Without Wi-Fi and with such a powerful subwoofer, the Theatre System 6 might not suit everyone.

Would you set up a home cinema with rear speakers, or is a soundbar under the TV enough for you?
