AMD introduced the cheapest RDNA 4 graphics card: Radeon RX 9050 has 8 GB GDDR6 memory and is suitable for Full HD gaming

AMD is expanding the Radeon RX 9000 series downwards, adding a model designed to attract players on a tight budget to Full HD gaming. The Radeon RX 9050 costs 279 dollars (just under 6 thousand crowns without tax), includes 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, and is built on the Navi 44 chip with RDNA 4 architecture. Those considering a cheaper variant should read carefully – the weaker 4GB version will not be available for retail sale at all.

A card with two faces and different parameters

The existence of a lighter 4GB variant alongside the standard card was hinted at earlier by manufacturer ASRock, when it accidentally listed it in its e-shop before the official announcement. AMD has now confirmed that this version will go exclusively into pre-built computers and will not be sold separately. The difference is not only in memory capacity – the OEM variant uses a narrower 64-bit bus, while the retail model relies on 128 bits. Anyone who comes across a computer with the “same” graphics card at a lower price may actually be getting a significantly stripped-down piece of silicon.

Sixteen units that resemble AMD’s own integrated graphics

The Navi 44 itself offers 16 compute units, 1,024 stream processors, 16 ray tracing accelerators, and 32 MB of Infinity Cache, with boost frequencies climbing up to 2,600 MHz. An interesting parallel is that the integrated graphics Radeon 890M, which AMD introduced in 2024 as the then most powerful solution of its kind, albeit built on the older RDNA 3.5 architecture, had the same number of 1,024 stream processors.

Manufacturer’s figures

During the presentation, AMD also included its own Full HD benchmarks – 96 frames per second in Cyberpunk 2077, 131 in Forza Horizon 6, 60 in 007: First Light, and over 500 in esports title Valorant. However, these are figures from the manufacturer itself, so it’s reasonable to wait for independent tests before drawing definitive conclusions about performance in your specific setup. The Radeon RX 9050 will first appear in Asia, Japan, and Latin America; AMD has not yet announced a date for Europe or North America.
