Are you showering too long? IKEA is now selling a gadget that calculates it precisely in liters Home News IKEA has started selling the Bergvattnet water meter in the Czech Republic, which calculates how much water you consume when showering For 999 crowns, you get a display with temperature, consumption, and time data – it works with most standard showers In some European countries, it costs up to 300 crowns more; paradoxically, Czechs have one of the best prices Sdílejte: Jakub Kárník Published: 9. 8. 2025 22:30 Advertisement How many liters of water do you consume during your morning shower? Most of us don’t know. IKEA has now started selling the Bergvattnet gadget in the Czech Republic, which calculates it precisely in liters. And the result might unpleasantly surprise you – an average ten-minute shower consumes around 100 liters of water. A Display That Will Keep an Eye on You Bergvattnet is essentially a flow meter with a large display that you mount between your shower mixer and hose. On the screen, you see three pieces of data in real-time: how many liters of water you’ve already used, the current temperature, and how long you’ve been showering. No mobile apps, no phone pairing – just a battery-powered display. Cleverly, the timer automatically pauses when you turn off the water (e.g., when soaping up), but only if the pause doesn’t last longer than two minutes. Then it resets. IKEA states that the device is primarily intended to raise awareness about water consumption. In other words – once you see that your morning rituals consume as much water as a small pool, you might shorten the time spent contemplating under a hot shower. Price: 999 Kč Does it work with every shower? According to IKEA, Bergvattnet is compatible with most shower mixers. You can connect it either to the mixer’s outlet or to the shower set’s inlet – the meter can track flow in both directions. The package also includes a sealing washer, and the entire device comes with a three-year warranty. Czech Price and Availability Bergvattnet has only been sold in the Czech Republic for a week at 999 crowns. The product gradually started appearing in Europe during the summer – the UK and France received it first in July, and now it’s expanding to other countries, including the Czech Republic. It is a limited edition, so once stocks are sold out, there might not be any more. Price: 999 Kč What do you think of IKEA’s new gadget?
