A projector that fits in a backpack and doesn’t need an outlet sounds like an ideal companion for camping or the garden. You can now buy the ViewSonic M1X with code ALZADNY40 for 5,993 CZK instead of 9,989 CZK. But there’s one parameter you need to know before you click buy – and it’s easily overlooked in the description.

👍 Take it, if you want to project at a cottage, campsite, or fairy tales for children on the ceiling, and resolution is not a priority for you.
🤔 Hesitate, if you expect a Full HD image – the native resolution is only 854 × 480 px, and the brightness of 150 ANSI lumens can only handle a darkened room.
💰 Price tag: 5,993 CZK is a lot for a projector with this resolution; you are buying portability and a battery, not image quality.

Eight hundred grams and no cable

Where the M1X excels is mobility. With dimensions of 16.6 × 5.4 × 13.8 cm and a weight of 0.8 kg, it fits into a backpack next to a laptop, and thanks to its built-in battery, you can turn it on anywhere – in the garden, at a cottage without electricity, or in a tent. The LED source has a lifespan of 60,000 hours, which means literally decades with normal use, and operation is quiet – 26 dB is a value you practically won’t hear during a movie.

The short projection distance is also practical: just 64 centimeters from the wall gives you an image, and from 2.66 meters, you get a diagonal of up to 254 cm. You can connect it via HDMI, USB-C, but also wirelessly via Wi-Fi and Miracast, so you can send content from your phone to the wall. Built-in speakers and internal memory mean you can watch a movie even without a connected device.

Let’s be honest about the image

Here, we need to be straightforward. Native resolution of 854 × 480 pixels is less than HD – roughly at the level of an old DVD. On a hundred-inch diagonal, this means you will see individual pixels, and subtitles will be harder to read. Although the projector accepts higher resolutions, it will downscale it to its 854 × 480 pixels. The second limitation is brightness of 150 ANSI lumens: projection is only possible in a properly darkened room or after dark outdoors; during the day, the image is unusable.

For comparison – for similar money, you can buy Full HD projectors with 400 to 500 ANSI lumens, but they require an outlet and are significantly larger. So here, you are paying for the battery, size, and lifespan, not for the image.
