Confirmed: Redmi Note 17 series to be unveiled this month, first specifications known

The best-selling mid-range Xiaomi will get a successor sooner than many expected. Redmi confirmed on the social network Weibo that the Redmi Note 17 series will hit the market in July. And it immediately added a marketing treat: the Note series has reportedly surpassed the mark of half a billion phones sold in its twelve years of existence.

What happened to the number 16?

Before we get to the parameters, one curiosity. Redmi is going straight from Note 15 to Note 17, skipping the sixteen without hesitation — exactly as Xiaomi’s flagship series did last year. An official explanation is missing, but simple marketing logic suggests itself: a higher number sells better, and “16” is usually omitted in the Chinese context. Everyone can judge for themselves whether it’s a deliberate move or superstition elevated to strategy.

Battery like a power bank

According to leaks, the basic Redmi Note 17 is expected to feature a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset, a flat 1.5K resolution display, a main 50Mpx sensor, and a battery with a capacity of exactly 9,000 mAh. The Note 17 Pro version then adds Dimensity 7500, a main 200Mpx camera (likely Samsung ISOCELL HP5), and an even larger 10,000 mAh battery. These are values we used to see more often in rugged phones.

It is necessary to add the usual warning: all these data apply to Chinese models and are currently based on leaks. Global versions, which usually arrive months later, tend to have a different chipset and battery capacity. Therefore, it’s not worth estimating Czech prices yet — once Xiaomi provides specific information for our market, we will return to them with real numbers.
