A small detail, but one that everyone who deals with music in the car will appreciate. The redesigned player, which we’ve been waiting for since the beginning of the year, is finally rolling out more widely to Android Auto. It concerns not only Spotify, but also YouTube Music and other applications.

Blurred cover and Material 3 bar

The new player in Spotify brings a blurred album cover in the background, a control bar in the spirit of Material 3 Expressive, and differently arranged buttons. The design has been shown in beta since January, but only now is it reaching a wider range of drivers. The same look should also appear in YouTube Music and Pocket Casts; the player also received a more prominent “thumbs down” button among the controls.

YouTube Music spoils the experience with a disappearing library

But not everything is rosy. Some YouTube Music users report that the Library tab is disappearing from the app. Resetting the app on the phone reportedly helps, but it’s an annoying workaround for something that should work on its own. It’s a reminder that even minor visual updates can bring their own bugs — and in a car, where you want to keep your hands off the screen as much as possible, this is doubly true.

Has the new player arrived for you, or are you still waiting?
