When O2 TV and Voyo services recently merged into a single Oneplay platform, the largest Czech streaming service with an impressive library of films and series was created. For many viewers, this means a pleasant opportunity to discover new shows they might otherwise overlook. We therefore decided to explore which series on Oneplay enjoy the greatest popularity and compile a ranking of the best-rated ones.

1. Markovič Method: Hojer (90%)

The imaginary gold medal goes to the six-part miniseries from Voyo Original production, which provides detailed testimony about the investigation of the serial killer Ladislav Hojer. His crimes were committed between 1978 and 1981 and shook all of Czechoslovakia. The story follows the legendary criminal investigator Jiří Markovič, who, with his humane approach to investigation, managed to gain Hojer’s trust and gradually persuade him to confess.

The series is garnering enthusiastic reactions thanks to the extraordinary acting performances of Petr Lněnička as Markovič and especially Petr Uhlík as Hojer. Critics praise the atmospheric execution, sensitive portrayal of the dark story, and the overall acting “concert.” One viewer on ČSFD even remarked that “if we had nominations for TV series Oscars here, this Czech GEM would collect several of them”.

2. Broadchurch (85%)

The British detective series starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman tells the story of the investigation into the murder of an eleven-year-old boy in a small seaside town. However, it’s not just a classic crime drama – the series masterfully portrays the psychology of the characters and the impact of the tragedy on the entire community. The first season is a thrilling search for the killer, while the second follows the dramatic court process.

Viewers particularly appreciate the exceptional atmosphere, melancholic tone, and perfect music, which enhances the emotional experience. Broadchurch was so successful that it also inspired a Slovak adaptation titled Vina (starring Tomáš Maštalír and Gabriela Marcinková), which you can also find in Oneplay’s offering.

3. Sex O’Clock (80%)

The comedy project Sex O’Clock, originally filmed under the Voyo Original brand, became a pleasant surprise among Czech series. The main character is the teenage Adam (Maxmilián Kocek), who is primarily concerned with his dance career and the burning question of when he will finally lose his virginity. However, his life dramatically changes when his father (Jan Révai) comes with an unexpected revelation that shakes the entire family.

Reviewers praise the witty dialogues, excellent acting performances, and the fact that the creators were not afraid to open up modern topics that are still rarely discussed on Czech television. Although the inspiration from the British series Sex Education is evident, Sex O’Clock found its own voice and style. According to many, it is “the best and most original series from Voyo’s workshop”.

4. SpongeBob SquarePants (78%)

The cult animated series about an optimistic sea sponge and his friends from the underwater town of Bikini Bottom has been entertaining audiences since 1999. SpongeBob works at the Krusty Krab fast-food restaurant, lives in a pineapple house, and experiences crazy adventures full of absurd humor with his best friend Patrick.

Although primarily intended for children, the series has gained a huge fan base among adults who appreciate its witty allusions and double meanings. On Oneplay, you can enjoy dozens of episodes with Czech dubbing, which will especially please families with children. It’s an ideal choice when you need lighthearted and positive entertainment.

5. The Well (77%)

Another original production from Voyo ranked fifth. The six-part miniseries The Well returns to one of the most famous criminal cases of former Czechoslovakia, which was also adapted in one episode of the series 30 Cases of Major Zeman. It is the tragic story of the Jelínek family from Vonoklas, which traumatized the entire country.

The creators, led by director Tereza Kopáčová, sought to tell the family’s story over nearly five decades and explain what preceded and followed the 1968 tragedy. David Švehlík, Johana Matoušková, and Filip František Červenka excel in the main roles. The series was filmed after thorough research, study of archival materials, and interviews with survivors, which adds to its authenticity.

6. Cardinal (77%)

The Canadian crime series brings the chilling atmosphere of a Nordic thriller with an excellent cast. Billy Campbell stars as Detective John Cardinal and Karine Vanasse as his partner Lise Delorme. The story begins with the discovery of a young girl’s body frozen in ice in an abandoned mine in Ontario.

Cardinal is inspired by Scandinavian crime dramas, but unlike them, it remains grounded and believable. Viewers particularly appreciate the likeable central duo, authentic winter scenery, and atmospheric execution. “Winter, summer, autumn… and winter again. There’s no time for a cheerful spring here,” comments one fan, which perfectly captures the series’ somber mood. A total of four seasons were created, adapting six books by Canadian author Giles Blunt.

7. Morning Star (74%)

The Czech miniseries by director Dan Wlodarczyk tells the story of a family whose child is taken away by authorities due to an inappropriate name. “It’s a story about a clash of values,” explains the director himself, who was inspired by real events from the turn of the millennium, when alternative families often faced misunderstanding from the system.

The series poses a universal question – where does a person’s personal freedom end and where does social norm begin? Petra Bučková, Jan Plouhar, and Denisa Biskupová excel in the main roles. Morning Star offers a sensitive look at a complex topic and forces viewers to consider whether it is even possible to live outside the given system today.

8. Guilt (74%)

The Slovak adaptation of the British series Broadchurch, which follows the investigation of the brutal murder of an eleven-year-old boy in the picturesque town of Tichý Brod. The case is taken on by local police captain Elena Mikušová (Gabriela Marcinková) along with her new colleague, Major Adam Hanzel (Tomáš Maštalír), whose reserved and socially awkward approach initially complicates their cooperation.

The first season of the series contains 8 episodes and was broadcast in spring 2025. It was followed by a second season, which seamlessly continued the events from the first season and focused on the trial of the killer. Viewers appreciate the tense atmosphere, quality acting performances, and the gradual uncovering of secrets that the town’s inhabitants had hidden from others for years. According to the director, viewer tension is built very carefully: “The viewer must feel that they have uncovered a suspect, but a few episodes later they will find out that everything was different.”

9. Alex Rider (68%)

The British spy thriller for a younger audience tells the story of fourteen-year-old Alex, who, after the death of his uncle, becomes an agent for a secret unit of the British intelligence service MI6. In the first season, he infiltrates a special school at the top of Point Blanc mountain, which is tasked with re-educating unruly offspring from wealthy families.

The series is an adaptation of Anthony Horowitz’s book series and stands out for its impressive action choreography and tense atmosphere. It is often compared to the Kingsman film series, but reviewers appreciate that it remains more grounded and offers a more realistic view of the world of espionage. Otto Farrant starred in the main role, gaining audience sympathy with his convincing performance.

10. Comeback (66%)

The cult Czech comedy series about former music star Tomáš Pacovský (Tomáš Matonoha), who tries to support his brother Ozzák and daughter Iva by selling CDs. He is helped by his loyal fan and now employee Marcelka, whom Ozzák calls Mamba, and other quirky characters from their surroundings.

Comeback became a phenomenon thanks to its brilliant dialogues, unforgettable catchphrases, and charismatic acting performances. Although originally filmed for TV Nova, streaming has given it a new generation of fans who appreciate its timeless humor. Now you can enjoy all seasons on Oneplay.

What is Oneplay and how did it originate?

The Oneplay streaming service was created in March 2025 by the merger of two popular platforms – Voyo from TV Nova and O2 TV. The combination of these services created the largest Czech streaming platform, which combines the best of both worlds – exclusive original content, a wide range of sports broadcasts, live television, and a rich library of films and series in Czech.

Oneplay offers several tariff plans, from the basic Komfort package (199 CZK per month) with 55 programs to the premium Maximum package (799 CZK per month) with 142 channels. The service can be watched on various devices – from smart TVs to mobile phones and tablets to computers, providing viewers with maximum flexibility.
