Galaxy A27 renders are out. Samsung finally did what Chinese competitors managed in 2022

  • The Samsung Galaxy A27, in leaked renders, finally ditches the long-standing teardrop notch and adopts a modern punch-hole for the selfie camera
  • A flat 6.7" display and a redesigned camera module make the affordable A-series look almost like a flagship
  • No word yet on the chipset, battery, or price, but last year's A26 started at 300 euros

The annual cycle of leaks from Samsung’s South Korean kitchen is picking up pace, and now it’s the turn of the most affordable A-series model. Renowned leaker OnLeaks, under the umbrella of HotEUDeals, has published the first CAD renders of the upcoming Galaxy A27, and even though it’s “just” the external appearance for now, it’s already noteworthy. Samsung is finally doing something users have been waiting for for several generations.

The teardrop notch disappears, finally

While Chinese competitors ditched the “Infinity-U” teardrop notch around 2022, Samsung calmly recycled it in the cheapest Galaxy A series until now. Because of this, the Galaxy A26 looked two classes cheaper than it was. The Galaxy A27 is set to change this with a single, but crucial move – the notch moves to the center of the top edge and transforms into a classic punch-hole.

It sounds like a minor detail, but it’s precisely this detail that determines whether your phone feels like a product from 2019 or 2026. After adopting the punch-hole, the Galaxy A27 can only be distinguished from the flagship Galaxy S26 or the A37 and A57 by the thickness of the bezels and weight. Samsung thus continues to unify the design across its entire portfolio.

Flagship on the outside, mystery on the inside

A few more details can be gleaned from the renders. The display should have a diagonal of approximately 6.7 inches and remains flat, while the back features a redesigned camera module with three lenses in an island, strongly resembling the setup of the Galaxy A37 and A57. Dimensions have settled at 162.3 × 78.6 × 7.9 mm, meaning the new generation is slightly shorter, but wider and thicker than the A26. It will therefore be a slightly more compact, but also more robust device.

However, what will power the Galaxy A27, what battery it will offer, and how much memory Samsung will dare to pack into it, no one knows yet. OnLeaks this time limited himself purely to the design, which is quite unusual for leaks of this caliber. It can be assumed that the Koreans will once again opt for a domestic Exynos chip and a five-thousand-mAh battery, but this is naturally not confirmed.

Price will be decisive

And here we come to the most interesting part of the whole puzzle. The Galaxy A26 launched last year with a price of 300 euros, while in the Czech Republic, the price was around 7,000 CZK. If the A27 maintained this level, it would be a decent offer given its current appearance. However, Samsung has been gradually raising the prices of smartphones, tablets, and notebooks across its entire range in recent months, and the global memory shortage is not helping.

If the Koreans pass on the price increase to the cheapest A-series model, it could happen that the Galaxy A27 ends up closer to the 350 euro mark – and thus in direct competition with better-equipped Chinese rivals.

Would you opt for the new Galaxy A27, or would you prefer Chinese competitors?
