Samsung didn’t know what to do with Galaxy Buds headphones for a long time – solid features, but sonically they were always a bit behind Sony and Apple. With Buds3 Pro, that finally changed, and reviewers finally recommended them. Galaxy Buds4 Pro for 6,199 CZK go even further: a new design with a metallic finish, a wider bass driver, improved ANC, and Bluetooth 6.1. According to initial reviews, these are the best-sounding Samsung headphones ever – but there’s one “but”.

What’s new compared to Buds3 Pro

Sonically, the key change is in the wider bass driver (11mm woofer with 20% larger effective area) and an improved treble driver (5.5mm planar). Together, they support 24-bit/96kHz Hi-Fi audio via the proprietary SSC UHQ codec – but only with compatible Samsung Galaxy phones (S26, S25, S24, Z Fold/Flip series). With iPhones and other Android phones, they work via AAC/SBC. Bluetooth has been upgraded to version 6.1 (from 5.4 in Buds3 Pro).

What the first reviews say

What Hi-Fi? rates the sound 4/5 and features 5/5. The reviewer describes the sound as clean, organized, and agile – a clear step forward in detail and clarity compared to Buds3 Pro. With the SSC UHQ codec activated via a Galaxy S25, the sound becomes significantly more precise – bass is more controlled, mids are more detailed. But: without a Samsung phone, you won’t get the full potential. What Hi-Fi? also states that Sony WF-1000XM6 are still dynamically and rhythmically superior, and AirPods Pro 3 have slightly more pronounced dynamic contrasts. However, in terms of clarity and spaciousness, Buds4 Pro surpass AirPods.

CNET awards 8.8/10 and Editors’ Choice. The reviewer praises the improved design, better sound clarity and bass extension, and especially the top-notch call quality even in challenging conditions (rain, wind, busy street). The transparency mode is rated as “one of the best on the market, on par with Apple.” Noise cancelling is strong but still a step behind Apple, Bose, and Sony. Main criticism: battery life has not improved – 6 hours with ANC on (AirPods Pro 3 offer 8 hours). Also, the proprietary ear tips do not allow using replacement tips from other manufacturers.

Galaxy Buds4 for 4,399 CZK are open-fit earbuds (without silicone tips) with a single 11mm driver, ANC, adaptive equalizer, and IP54 resistance. Battery life: 5 hours with ANC, a total of 24 hours with the case. They are suitable for those who don’t like the sealed feeling of in-ear tips and want all-day comfort.

Galaxy Buds4 Pro for 6,199 CZK are in-ear earbuds with silicone tips, a two-way speaker (woofer + planar driver), more advanced ANC with voice and siren detection, Super Clear Call for calls, and IP57 resistance (submersion in water for 30 minutes). Battery life: 6 hours with ANC, a total of 26 hours. Additionally, they offer wireless charging for the case.

In short: if you want the best sound and ANC, Pro is the choice. If you prefer a more open design and a lower price, the basic Buds4 will suffice. Both support head gestures (nodding accepts a call, shaking rejects it), wake-word-free voice control, and hands-free access to AI assistants (Bixby, Gemini, Perplexity) on Galaxy phones.

Verdict: who are they for

Galaxy Buds4 Pro are a clear choice for Galaxy phone owners – the SSC UHQ codec significantly enhances sound quality, and integration into the ecosystem (automatic switching, Now Bar, AI assistants) is excellent. What Hi-Fi? and CNET agree: sonically, these are the best Samsung headphones in history. But if you don’t have a Galaxy phone, you’ll miss out on the Hi-Fi codec and some features – in which case, Sony WF-1000XM6 (better ANC and dynamics) or AirPods Pro 3 for iPhone users (better battery life) are worth considering.
