Gemini and Google Play have connected. You can now find and install apps directly in the conversation

  • Google has connected Gemini and Google Play – you can now search for apps directly in a conversation with the AI assistant
  • Just describe what app you need; Gemini will recommend it and install it with a single tap
  • The new feature is rolling out gradually and has several conditions (including being over 18 years old)

Finding the right app in a crowded store can be quite annoying – there are hundreds of thousands of icons and reviews often contradict each other. Google has therefore connected two things that have long belonged together: Gemini and Google Play. You can now simply tell the assistant what you need, and it will find and compare the app for you and simplify the installation itself..

Installing apps directly from Gemini

In the Gemini app, instead of browsing categories, you can type a common sentence – for example, “find me a meditation app” or “I need an app for meal planning.” The assistant will respond either with text or directly with Google Play Store cards showing ratings and download counts for each suggestion.

Once you choose, just type “install” and tap the icon – this will take you to the app’s page where you confirm the installation. This way, you can handle searching, deciding, and downloading in a single conversation, without switching between apps.

What can Gemini and Google Play do together?

Google isn’t stopping at just search with this new feature. In addition to discovering apps by description, the assistant can also do this:

  • installs a recommended app directly from the conversation
  • purchases subscriptions or in-app items for apps you already have on your phone
  • also acquires Google Play digital gift cards

Gemini runs in a redesigned environment, which we described on the website earlier this spring. The integration with the store is another step towards the assistant handling common tasks for you, not just answering questions.

What do you need for this?

However, it’s not entirely without conditions. For the integration to appear in Gemini, you must be logged in to a personal Google account, have Google Play Store installed on your phone, and have activity saving enabled in the assistant’s settings. The feature is also intended only for users over 18 years old. The connection to the store itself will be set up automatically the first time you ask Gemini about an app.

Several limitations must also be considered. The new feature is rolling out gradually, so not everyone has it yet. Gemini can only recommend in-app purchases for apps you already have installed, and not all apps currently support payment – but their list is expanding, according to Google. Google demonstrated the feature itself at the I/O conference in May, as noted by 9to5Google; it was only released for live operation now.

Will you let Gemini search for and install apps for you next time?
