Gemini in Google Sheets has arrived on Android. What can it do?

Opening a large spreadsheet on a small phone screen is not ideal – scrolling through hundreds of rows and searching for information often costs a lot of nerves, and if the spreadsheet is truly extensive and sophisticated, after a while we give up and prefer to open it later on a computer. Google is now trying to make it more pleasant: Gemini in Google Sheets now also works in the mobile app for Android and analyzes your data right on the spot.

This is how Gemini helps with more complex spreadsheets

Inside the app, simply touch the Gemini spark icon and ask anything about the open spreadsheet. Google announced that the assistant can summarize the spreadsheet, extract correlations from numbers, and create a chart from them – and immediately offers ready-made query suggestions like “Summarize this spreadsheet” or “Analyze and find correlations.”

Where is this useful? Let’s say you keep track of your monthly expenses in a spreadsheet. Instead of manually going through each item, you can ask where your money is going or what stands out from the norm. The mobile version therefore makes sense especially when you need a quick overview and a computer is not readily available.

What the mobile version isn’t capable of yet?

It’s not quite the full version. Google points out that more complex edits, formatting, and formula generation will still require the web version – mobile Gemini focuses purely on data analysis and reading. On a computer, the Sheets assistant can do more: it recently learned, for example, to advise on formula errors and fix them with a single click.

The feature is already rolling out to users

Gemini in Sheets on Android has been rolling out since last week, but according to Google, a widespread rollout could take about 15 days. For those who receive it, it will appear automatically – no switch in settings needs to be dealt with, and administrators do not have a separate preference for the mobile feature. I don’t see the feature on my Pixel 11 Pro yet.

However, the new feature will only appear for accounts with a corresponding plan – for business accounts, these are Business Standard and Plus, and Enterprise Standard and Plus; for educational accounts, Google AI Pro for Education; and for regular users, subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra will have access.
