During the Pixel 10 series presentation, Google subtly showed something that was not part of the presentation at all – a new smart speaker with Gemini. The device flashed for only a few seconds, but it was enough to spark speculation. Now we have the first concrete information, and it looks like Google will finally deliver on features it has been promising for years. What’s more – thanks to Gemini already speaking Czech, these speakers will likely be fully usable in our country for the first time.

A round speaker that resembles the HomePod

The design of the new speaker is significantly different from existing Nest products. It is a round speaker with a fabric surface, strikingly reminiscent of the Apple HomePod Mini. The light ring is not on top as before, but around the base, which creates an interesting effect when interacting with Gemini.

According to a leak from Android Headlines, the speaker will be available in four colors – classic black and white, complemented by light green and bright red. Google seems to be taking a cue from the colorful HomePod Mini variants, which sell well precisely because they allow the speaker to be matched with the interior.

Finally, pairing with a TV

The biggest new feature is pairing with a Google TV Streamer to create spatial audio. Google has been promising this feature for years – it was supposed to work with Nest Audio, but when the Google TV Streamer was released last year, there was no support. Apple has been able to do this with HomePods and Apple TV for a long time.

In practice, this means you buy two speakers and pair them with your TV as left and right channels. This will give you significantly better sound than from the TV’s built-in speakers, plus a spatial effect. The question is whether it will also work with other TVs that have Google TV.

Gemini instead of Google Assistant

The heart of the new speaker will be Gemini, not Google Assistant. This is a fundamental change that brings significantly smarter conversations and, most importantly, Czech language support. Google Assistant never really worked properly in Czech; Gemini is a completely different league.

The speaker will support Gemini Live, meaning natural conversation where you don’t have to wait for a response and can interrupt the assistant.

Matter hub and sound detection

The new speaker will function as a Matter hub, allowing you to connect smart devices from various manufacturers through it. This is important for building a smart home – you won’t need a separate hub for each brand.

An interesting feature is unusual sound detection – the speaker will recognize broken glass or a smoke alarm and notify you. Google has already tested similar features on older Nest speakers, but now it looks like full integration.

When and for how much?

Google has not yet announced a release date or price. According to leaks, the speaker could appear in the autumn alongside the new Gemini for Home assistant, i.e., in October. The price should be competitive with the HomePod Mini, which costs around three thousand Czech crowns.

If Google delivers on all the promised features, it will be the first truly usable smart speaker for the Czech market. The combination of Czech support, TV pairing, and Matter integration makes it an interesting choice for anyone looking to start with a smart home. Let’s just hope Google keeps its promises this time – history shows it’s not always a given.

Would you buy the new Google speaker with Gemini?
