Google Chrome is preparing a huge new feature. Autofill will take on a new dimension with Gemini

Filling out forms on the web is always equally time-consuming – name, address, order number, and if something is missing and you can’t remember, you go look it up in Gmail or somewhere else. Google wants to skip exactly this step. The Find and Fill with Gemini feature has appeared in the test version of Chrome, which can reach beyond the browser’s memory – directly into your connected Google applications.

Gemini will find missing data in other applications

The Windows Report server described the feature in the experimental Chrome Canary, and in practice, it looks simple. You type @@ (you can change the shortcut) into any text field, or right-click and select “Search and fill from anywhere”. Chrome then uses Gemini to find the corresponding data and offers it for completion, without you having to leave the page you’re working on.

The fundamental difference from previous autofill is where the data comes from. The old suggestion engine could only offer what you had stored directly in the browser. The new feature, on demand, can also retrieve information scattered across your account – for example, a number from a confirmation email or a detail hidden in Photos.

Where do you enable the feature and what can you set up?

Find and Fill has its own page in the settings. It is enabled in Settings → Autofill and passwords → Advanced autofill, where you toggle the “Find and fill with Gemini” option. In the same place, you specify which applications Gemini is allowed to search, change the activation shortcut, and find a link to privacy information.

What about your privacy?

For a feature that looks into emails and photos, the question of privacy is pertinent. Google states that each time it is invoked, it sends the name and address of the page where you initiate the autofill to its servers. The data that Gemini fills into the form is reportedly not used to train its models, nor is it reviewed by humans. Furthermore, the browser records whether you accept, edit, or reject a suggestion – according to the company, for further refinement of the service.

Find and Fill is still under development and has not made it into the stable version of Chrome; Google has not specified when this will happen. However, it fits into a broader trend where Gemini is appearing in more and more places in the browser.
