The mystery from the Pixel 11 ads is solved. The tracker, which unexpectedly appeared in Google’s promotional materials in August, is called the Fitbit Edge. Exclusive product images were obtained by Android Headlines, and according to them, it’s a fitness tracker that will show you notifications and offer its own GPS, without you having to charge it as often as the Pixel Watch.

Google would thus fill a gap in its wearable electronics offering. On one side stands the display-less Fitbit Air, on the other, the Pixel Watch 5, which resembles more of a phone on the wrist (and their battery life reflects that). The company hasn’t released a new Fitbit Charge since 2023, and Android Headlines therefore considers the Edge to be the spiritual successor to that line.

What will the Fitbit Edge look like?

According to images published by Android Headlines, the Fitbit Edge will feature a curved display that extends much closer to the edges than any previous Fitbit. The images show a watch face taken from the Pixel Watch, adapted for the elongated shape. Besides time and date, it displays heart rate, step count, and a shortcut to start a workout.

Elongated metal plates run along both sides of the body. Android Headlines sees them as buttons, but 9to5Google considers them to be ECG measurement electrodes, similar to those on the Fitbit Charge 6. A set of sensors is hidden on the back, mainly resembling the Fitbit Air, so Google might also use the same magnetic charger. Straps will be changed via latches at the top and bottom.

There are expected to be three colors – Obsidian Black, Olive Green, and Canyon Orange, which are the same shades as the Pixel 11 Pro series. The green and orange variants are two-tone, with the orange one getting a more prominent gold frame. The leaked images do not capture the Fog Gray variant that Google showed in its August ads. However, according to Android Headlines, other colors are not ruled out.

Fitbit Edge is expected to last up to seven days

The features are revealed by a comparison table from the leaked materials, which places the Edge alongside the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5. The tracker connects to the phone via Bluetooth; Wi-Fi is missing from the table. However, unlike the Fitbit Air, it will display notifications and handle a few simple applications – Google Maps, music control, and the Find My Phone feature.

For athletes, the Fitbit Edge will offer its own GPS, an altimeter, and automatic activity recognition, features already familiar from the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5. The built-in satellite navigation was, in fact, already hinted at by the September FCC certification, which we wrote about. The documents at the time also mentioned a metal frame.

The battery is expected to last up to seven days, similar to the Fitbit Air, which lasted six to seven days in our review. The Pixel Watch 5, on the other hand, needs to be charged much more frequently. Furthermore, according to the leak, the Fitbit Edge will work with both Android and iPhone, whereas the Pixel Watch 5 with Wear OS is not compatible with iPhone.

It could arrive this month

The official unveiling date is not yet known. Android Headlines expects an introduction sometime in October to catch the holiday season. The server only estimates the price based on previous models: the Charge series cost 129 to 179 dollars, and the Fitbit Air starts at 99 dollars. The Edge could therefore cost approximately 3,000 to 4,000 CZK (149 to 199 dollars).

I wouldn’t count on Czech availability. The Fitbit Air is not officially sold here, and for the review, we ordered it from the German Google Store. But perhaps Google will surprise us this time…

Would you go for the Fitbit Edge, or is a display-less tracker enough for you?
