A month ago, we informed you about a massive leak of upcoming Google Nest products. At that time, we saw renders of the new speaker in four colors, but we didn’t know the name. Now it’s clear – text appeared in the Google Home app code version 3.41, which talks about the “Google Home Speaker”. If it’s not just an internal placeholder, we have the official name.

End of the Nest era, return to the original brand

It’s an interesting turn. After years of Google pushing the Nest brand (Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub), it is returning to the original naming from 2016. Back then, it had Google Home, Home Mini, and Home Max. Now it will have Google Home Speaker. Someone in marketing probably realized that the Nest brand tends to confuse customers.

Marketing text also appeared in the app: “Enjoy 360° sound on Google Home Speaker and 2K video on new Nest cameras and doorbells”. The rounded design of the speaker, which we saw in the renders, therefore makes sense – the sound is supposed to emanate evenly in all directions.

Gemini instead of Assistant, but for a price

The new speaker won’t just play music. Google will completely replace the old Assistant with Gemini artificial intelligence in it. The app code states: “Meet Gemini, your new voice assistant. Go beyond commands and ask anything.”

Features Google promises:

  • Gemini Live for more natural conversations
  • Ask Home – you describe what you want to automate, AI sets it up
  • Smart Security – AI describes what it sees on cameras, sends a daily summary
  • Sound Sensing – detects broken glass or alarms when you’re not home

The catch? Most features will require a Google Home Premium subscription. This is the renamed Nest Aware, which currently costs 10 dollars a month (not available in the Czech Republic).

Unveiling on October 1, but when in our country?

Google will officially unveil the new speaker on October 1. The question is – will it reach us? As we wrote last time, the Google Store in the Czech Republic does work, but it doesn’t offer Nest products yet.

How much are you looking forward to Google’s upcoming speaker?
