Google Keep gets a new design! This is what the popular note-taking app looks like on Android now

The Google Keep app joins the growing list of Google apps that are getting a new look in the form of the Material 3 Expressive design language. Following the April widget update and floating action button (FAB) changes earlier this year, the latest version brings a more comprehensive redesign that will affect the daily use of this popular note-taking app.

Improved search bar as the main change

The most significant new feature is the redesigned search bar at the top of the app. It is now more prominent, stronger, and gives a more robust impression. Google has also “cleaned it up” by moving the hamburger menu and profile switcher outside the bar itself, which, in my opinion, creates better visual separation of individual elements.

The app’s home screen itself doesn’t change much otherwise; only the floating action button (FAB) received a minor adjustment – now, when expanded, icons are displayed first, followed by their text labels.

Rounded containers for buttons

The display of information about the last note modification has also changed. While previously the date and time of editing were located at the bottom, you can now find it by clicking on the three dots.

When will you get the update?

The new Material 3 Expressive design comes with version 5.25.282.00.90 of the Google Keep app for Android. However, this is a server-side update, so even if you have the latest version, you may not see the changes immediately. Google is rolling out the redesign gradually and it is not yet widely available to all users.

This visual adjustment to Google Keep fits into the broader context of updates that Google has been rolling out to most of its applications in recent months. Similar design changes have already been applied to Gmail, Wallet, and many other apps.
