Recently, we informed you about the complete redesign of Google Keep into the Material 3 Expressive language, which brought a more prominent search bar and rounded containers for buttons. Now, Google is adding a long-awaited sorting feature to its note-taking app, which will significantly facilitate orientation in more extensive note collections.

Sorting Notes with One Click

As reported by 9to5Google, the new feature is located directly in the top search bar, where a sorting icon has been added next to the toggle between single-column and multi-column views. Clicking it will reveal a panel from the bottom with three sorting options: Custom (your own order, which you adjust by dragging individual notes), Date created (by creation date), and Date modified (by last modification date).

Furthermore, the app remembers your custom note arrangement, so you can always return to it after using one of the automatic sorting options. When sorting by date is active, the sorting icon appears in a rounded pill shape, indicating an active filter.

Who the Feature is Ideal For

The new sorting will be especially appreciated by users with dozens or hundreds of notes, who previously had to manually scroll through the entire list. The feature is useful, for example, for quickly finding the latest notes or, conversely, the oldest ones that may no longer be current and can be archived.

Sorting by last modification date, in turn, helps anyone who needs to quickly find notes they are currently working on. The feature is currently not available in the web version or on iOS, where users must still rely on searching or manual browsing.

The new feature is gradually rolling out with version 5.25.312.00.90 of the Google Keep app for Android. Both users with the original Material You design and those who already have the new Material 3 Expressive look are receiving the feature.
