For many years, users of the Google Keep note-taking app have been calling for a simple but extremely useful feature. Now it seems their wish will finally be granted. The Android Authority editorial team has managed to reveal that Google will likely add the ability to search within a single note to its note-taking app. Although it sounds like a complete given, the current version of the app only allows searching across all notes at once, which significantly complicates working with longer entries.

How the new feature will work

The new option called “Find in note” (Vyhledat v poznámce) was discovered during the analysis of version 5.25.282.00.90 of the Google Keep app. Users will access this feature via the three-dot menu in the bottom right corner when viewing a specific note. The search option will be located at the very top of the list of actions, i.e., above common options like Delete or Make a copy.

The new feature has not yet reached users, and even for the experts from Android Authority, who managed to discover its presence in advance, it is not yet functional. According to the renowned dataminer known as AssembleDebug, the app crashes after clicking the Find in note button.

Catching up with the competition

What’s surprising is that Google Keep is finally catching up with competing solutions that have offered this basic feature for a long time. Apple Notes for iPhone users already includes a similar option, as does Samsung Notes, which even allows searching in handwritten notes. This new feature should therefore significantly improve the user experience, especially for those who keep extensive lists, lengthy text notes, or complex plans in Google Keep.

After the implementation of this feature, users will finally be able to quickly find specific information in long notes, similar to using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+F in a web browser or text editor. For students, professionals, and everyday users, this means a significant improvement in efficiency when working with notes.

A game-changing improvement for long notes

Although it may seem like a minor detail, for users who keep extensive notes in Google Keep, it will be a fundamental improvement. Personally, I must admit that I like the direction in which the note-taking app from the Californian software giant has been developing recently. It retains its simplicity, which in many cases makes it a clear choice for me over solutions like Notion, but it also gains handy features that will allow users to be even more efficient.

Are you looking forward to the new search feature in Google Keep?
