Google launched one of its most interesting apps to date. Dreambeans wants to create personalized stories for you Home News Google Labs has launched an experimental app called Dreambeans for Android and iOS, which creates personalized daily stories from your data. The app connects information from Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and search history using the Personal Intelligence system. Dreambeans is currently only available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US aged 18 and over; others can sign up for a waiting list. Some of them are now trying to sell the exact opposite. This trend includes Google Labs with its new app Dreambeans, which, instead of endless scrolling, aims to serve you a handful of personalized stories compiled from your own data every morning. Your day as a collection of illustrated stories A finite dose instead of endless scrolling Why "Dreambeans"? Privacy and Availability Your day as a collection of illustrated stories Dreambeans is built on the Personal Intelligence system, which Google also uses in the Gemini app and AI Mode. With your permission, the app connects data from Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and search history and compiles them into a collection of illustrated stories. According to Google, these could be tips for places to visit, topics to explore, upcoming trips, or events you shouldn’t forget. Product Manager Gozde Oznur provides a specific example: after receiving a delivery confirmation for puppy treats in her Gmail, the app offered her training tips. From a Calendar reminder about visiting a friend, it then generated recommendations for dog-friendly restaurants nearby. Each story is also accompanied by a unique illustration, created by the Nano Banana 2 model, which aims to reflect the people and places you visit most often. If a story catches your interest, you can tap to dive deeper. Dreambeans then also accesses information from the web, so it can direct you to the nearest dog park or a training course, for example. Favorite items can be saved to a library and revisited anytime. The app also offers recommendation tuning: if something misses the mark or, conversely, omits a new hobby, you can provide feedback, and the next collection should adapt accordingly. A finite dose instead of endless scrolling The main idea behind Dreambeans is to counteract so-called doomscrolling. Therefore, the app doesn’t provide an endless stream of content, but a limited number of stories per day, typically 10 to 14 according to Google. The goal is to give you a few ideas in the morning and then let you go out and live your life. Other companies and startups are also trying to appeal to the same group of users tired of phone addiction. Why “Dreambeans”? The unusual name has its logic. The dream part refers to the app working overnight while you sleep, sifting through content across connected services. The beans part, in turn, alludes to morning coffee: the system processes everything overnight and, upon waking, serves you a concentrated dose of inspiration, much like freshly ground coffee beans. You’ll wait about a day for the first collection of stories after setup, and then they’ll be added daily. Google launched one of its most interesting apps to date. Dreambeans wants to create personalized stories for you Adam Kurfürst News Adam Kurfürst News Privacy and Availability Given how deeply the app delves into personal data, Google emphasizes user control. According to them, Dreambeans doesn’t operate on an “all or nothing” principle: in the settings, you choose which services it can synchronize, but at least one must be active. It encourages users to connect all services, as the app reportedly works best that way. Furthermore, choices made in Dreambeans are not supposed to affect Personal Intelligence settings in other products, such as the Gemini app or AI Mode. Only you should have access to your stories, and data can be deleted at any time. For the app to capture you and your loved ones, face grouping must be enabled in Google Photos. Availability is currently the biggest limitation. Dreambeans has started rolling out to selected Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and over, exclusively in the United States, on both Android and iOS. Other interested users with a personal Google account can sign up for the waiting list. Moreover, it’s an experiment from Google Labs, which has a history of projects that ended before they could expand. Would you allow an app like Dreambeans access to your data in exchange for a daily dose of inspiration?
