Google Maps is one of the most frequently used applications, and Google might be preparing a truly smart boost for it. In the code of its latest beta, references to integration with Personal Intelligence appeared – a Gemini feature that automatically draws connections from your Google services. Navigation would then be able to plan a trip directly based on your inbox, reservations, or photos. But before you start cheering, there’s one significant problem.

The new strings in the code were highlighted by Android Authority, which analyzed the beta version of the application labeled 26.30. Personal Intelligence itself is nothing new: Gemini can connect Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and other services with it, and answer you based on what it knows about you. What’s new is that Maps should also be integrated into this puzzle.

Google Maps would gain a host of new capabilities

The integration would turn navigation into something like a personal travel planner. According to the discovered descriptions, the application would be able to work with information that is currently scattered across your email and other services, and present it directly on the map. Specifically, the code mentions these capabilities.

• displaying your reservations, flight tickets, and other confirmations directly in the app
• reminders for hotels and restaurant reservations you have planned
• connection to saved places and memories from Google Photos
• smarter Ask Maps feature that could plan a custom trip
• answers tailored to what awaits you in the near future

The most interesting aspect sounds like the improved “asking Maps” feature, or Ask Maps. Instead of a general “find me a restaurant nearby,” you could ask something like “where can I have dinner before that flight,” and the application would figure out which flight you mean and how much time you have. However, the whole magic relies on you allowing Maps to look into your other Google applications – without that connection, nothing will happen.

Google confirms this is a meaningful direction elsewhere too. Just recently, we wrote about how the AI Mode in Search received the same app integration, allowing you to shop for a barbecue directly from search results. However, the fact that this new feature in Maps is currently hidden only in the code means one thing: it’s far from certain.

How certain is this new feature?

Although two new settings appeared in the beta – “Connected Content Apps” and “Personalization” – both only load endlessly when clicked and cannot be enabled. Furthermore, the code itself is marked as work-in-progress, so the final form may still change, or the feature may not arrive at all. This is especially true for teardowns: they show what’s being worked on, not what’s finished.

We’ll wait for Personal Intelligence in the Czech Republic

And now for the condition we promised. While Personal Intelligence is rolling out globally, the European Economic Area, including the Czech Republic, remains out of play for now – the feature is heading to the USA and many other countries, but you won’t be able to launch it here. Google has not specified when that will change.

This is not the first time a new Maps feature has arrived late for Czech users. Similarly, we wrote about 3D navigation in Android Auto, which we are also still waiting for here. For features tied to artificial intelligence, it’s more of a rule than an exception.

Even if Personal Intelligence eventually arrives in Maps, it won’t be something that turns on automatically. It will be entirely up to you whether you connect the application with your Gmail, Photos, and other services. Android Authority describes the upcoming update, which is expected to bring this feature, as the smartest in the app’s history so far, so we are curious to see how Maps performs in practice after the improvement.
