Google Messages, Phone, and Contacts are getting new colorful icons. You'll like them

You see app icons on your home screen every day, and once you get used to them, you don’t really notice them anymore. Three apps you use to call, text, and save numbers with others are now getting new icons. Google has started rolling out a refreshed look for Google Messages, Google Phone, and Google Contacts, designed to align the trio with the rest of its applications.

Color Gradients and Rounder Shapes

As Google states on its official blog, the new icons are designed to appear sharper and more legible. They are now adorned with a subtle color gradient with clearly defined edges, refined curvature, and colors that match other Google applications. The “G” logo itself serves as a model, having already abandoned sharp color transitions last year in favor of a smooth gradient.

New Icons to Arrive in a Few Weeks

The app functions are not changing at the moment – according to Google, it’s purely about the icon’s appearance. So, you don’t need to set anything up or learn anything new. The new icons will appear on phones gradually over the next few weeks, so if you don’t see them on your device yet, just wait a little while. Google also refers to its community forum, where users can discuss the change and share their impressions.
