You can now edit Gemini documents directly in chat. It handles PDFs, spreadsheets, and presentations

Editing AI-generated documents is becoming significantly easier. Google announced that files created in Gemini can now be edited directly in the conversation, and in addition to regular “text files,” you’ll be able to modify PDFs, spreadsheets, or presentations.

The generated file will now appear in a preview directly in the chat. It can be expanded to full screen and typed into manually, or you can select a specific passage and ask Gemini to edit it. You can also directly ask questions about the selected text.

Google demonstrates this with a school example. You upload handwritten lecture notes, Gemini creates study material in PDF from them, and you can then edit unsatisfactory text or images within it. Google also mentions selecting a table, from which Gemini can create a chart upon request.

Gemini has been able to create downloadable files since this year, as we reported in the spring. However, the ability to edit them without leaving the application was missing.

Only PDFs on mobile for now, Czech language included

The only complication may arise if you primarily work with Gemini on mobile. Google has only introduced support for PDF editing in the app, whereas all other formats – Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Markdown files, text documents, and code – can only be edited in the web environment. On the positive side, Google immediately enabled this new feature for all languages supported by Gemini, so it also works in Czech.
