Google Photos finally gets a retouching suite. It will help remove imperfections not only from selfies

Information about face retouching tools in the Google Photos app first appeared last December, when the editorial team of Android Authority managed to prematurely activate the suite called Touch Up in a beta version. The name of the new feature is the same compared to that time, but the range of functions has slightly expanded, and most importantly – the new feature is now officially heading to all users.

Seven tools for face editing

Compared to the December leak, where Android Authority found only six tools, the official launch added the Heal function, designed to remove minor skin imperfections such as pimples or blemishes. The complete set now looks like this:

• Heal – removal of minor imperfections and blemishes
• Smooth – skin smoothing
• Under Eyes – reduction of dark circles and bags under the eyes
• Irises – iris enhancement
• Teeth – teeth whitening
• Eyebrows – eyebrow adjustment
• Lips – lip retouching

Each effect has its own intensity slider, so you can choose between a subtle adjustment and a more significant intervention. Usage is easy – just select a face in the editor, choose a tool from the list, and play with the values.

Availability only on Android and gradually

Touch Up has begun to gradually roll out globally, exclusively within the Google Photos app on Android. To use it, you need a device with Android 9 or newer and at least 4 GB of RAM. iPhone owners are currently out of luck, and Google does not mention their version at all in the announcement.
