Great news! Gemini can finally create files that you can instantly download

When working with Gemini, you’ve probably encountered an unnecessarily annoying routine more than once: the generated text needs to be copied, moved to another application, and reformatted to get a usable document. While Canvas mode or the export to Docs button largely simplifies the work, if you’re purely looking for a file in a .docx or PDF format, the AI assistant unfortunately didn’t do all the work for you. However, with the introduction of support for generating files available for instant download, this is now over.

From prompt to finished document

The principle is simple. You just need to tell Gemini in the chat what you need – whether it’s a budget proposal, a one-page summary of a long conversation, or a structured draft from free notes. The application will then create the corresponding file, which is ready for immediate download or sharing. This eliminates copying and pasting or waiting for export to Docs and subsequent conversion to a specific format. Google’s goal is clear: to facilitate the transition from brainstorming to final output without having to leave the Gemini application.

What formats Gemini supports

The list of supported formats is surprisingly rich. In addition to native Google Workspace files (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Gemini also handles formats from Microsoft’s office suite, specifically .docx and .xlsx. Of course, PDF can also be generated, as well as CSV, LaTeX, plain text (TXT), Rich Text Format (RTF), or Markdown (MD). For most of them, it is then possible to download the file directly to the device or save it to Google Drive.

Available instantly and everywhere

Unlike some previous features, file generation is available globally right away. You can therefore try it out in the Czech Republic, both in the web version of Gemini and in the mobile application. Just write a prompt and specify the format in which you want to receive the result.
