At the end of September, we informed you about Xiaomi’s controversial decision, which was supposed to significantly limit the availability of the Hyper Island feature in the upcoming HyperOS 3 update. This feature, which elegantly mimics Apple’s Dynamic Island, was originally intended only for premium models. However, the situation now seems to be turning for the better.

Original plans caused disappointment

Back in September, leaker PaperKing13 pointed out a disturbing finding in the HyperOS 3 code. Xiaomi had then planned to block access to HyperIsland for most mid-range and lower-end phones, including the popular Redmi and Redmi Note series. The decision would have affected millions of users who would have lost one of the system’s most interesting new features.

The Hyper Island feature represents a smart notification area around the camera cutout, displaying live activities, notifications, and media controls. Xiaomi introduced it as one of the most interesting and at the same time most distinctive features of the new overlay.

Has Xiaomi backed down from strict restrictions?

The same leaker PaperKing13 now brings positive news. In the latest version of HyperOS 3.0.23, Xiaomi has, according to his findings, completely removed the code that blocked Hyper Island for cheaper phones.

The code modification suggests that Xiaomi listened to community criticism and decided to make the feature available to a wider range of users. Hyper Island should therefore be available for all phones listed in the official update schedules that Xiaomi has published for global markets.

Some restrictions will still remain

Despite the positive changes, not all phones will have the full version of Hyper Island. According to the leaker’s findings, Xiaomi has deactivated player animations for devices with low RAM. This will primarily affect basic models such as Redmi 15 or Redmi 15C 5G.

The exact parameters of the restrictions remain unclear. Xiaomi has not yet specified the minimum amount of RAM required for full functionality. Details will be known only when HyperOS 3 arrives on the first cheaper phones.

Do you appreciate that Xiaomi will eventually make Hyper Island available for cheaper phones as well?
