Hurry to IKEA! New smart plug costs only 199 CZK and supports Matter and consumption monitoring

The Swedish furniture giant introduced a new generation of smart home products in November, and now the first of them are reaching the Czech market. Among them is an inconspicuous but practical novelty – the GRILLPLATS smart plug, which for two hundred crowns transforms a common lamp or appliance into a remotely controllable device. And what’s important: it uses the universal Matter standard, so it’s not locked into a single manufacturer’s ecosystem.

Two variants, one function

IKEA offers the GRILLPLATS plug in two versions. The basic model without accessories costs 199 CZK, and to control it, you will need the IKEA Home smart app or a compatible smart home system. The second variant for 249 CZK includes a pre-paired remote control in the package, allowing you to turn the plug on and off instantly without needing to reach for your phone. Up to 10 plugs can be connected to the remote control simultaneously.

Both versions use Matter over Thread technology. For full functionality, including control via smartphone, a Thread Border Router is needed – in IKEA’s case, this is the DIRIGERA hub, which is sold separately for 1,490 CZK.

Consumption monitoring and broad compatibility

Kromě základního zapínání a vypínání připojených zařízení na dálku nabízí GRILLPLATS také měření spotřeby energie. V aplikaci IKEA Home smart tak můžete sledovat, kolik elektřiny spotřebovává vaše stojací lampa nebo třeba kávovar v pohotovostním režimu. Tyto údaje mohou pomoci při optimalizaci energetických návyků v domácnosti.

Thanks to the open Matter standard, the plug is compatible with systems from Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey, and Samsung. You don’t have to worry about being forced to use only the IKEA app – GRILLPLATS can be integrated into your existing smart home ecosystem regardless of which platform you prefer.

GRILLPLATS represents one of the cheapest entry points into the world of smart homes with Matter support on the Czech market. It is suitable for those who want to automate the switching on of lamps, fans, or small appliances without having to buy new devices. The variant with a remote control for 249 CZK can also serve as a solution for older household members who do not want to control lights via phone.
