IKEA brings donut-shaped smart light to Czechia. It supports Matter and isn't expensive

Swedish furniture giant IKEA is expanding its smart lighting offering with an unconventional piece. The VARMBLIXT LED lamp has arrived in Czech stores, openly resembling a donut with its round shape and a hole in the middle. It’s not just a design accessory – the light fully integrates into the smart home ecosystem and supports the open Matter standard. And it costs only 1,290 CZK.

Smart features with Matter support

VARMBLIXT is not just a pretty lamp, but a full-fledged smart luminaire. In the package, you’ll find a pre-paired remote control, which allows you to change the light intensity and color immediately after unboxing. The lamp supports both colored and white spectrum, with smooth transitions between individual shades.

For extended control options, you need to purchase the DIRIGERA hub, which is sold separately. With it, you gain access to the IKEA Home smart application, where you can set up automatic scenarios – for example, turning on the light at sunrise or simulating presence during a vacation.

A key advantage is the support for the open Matter standard, which allows you to connect the lamp not only with the IKEA hub but also with systems from Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey, or Samsung. Technically, VARMBLIXT uses the Matter over Thread protocol, which requires a Thread Border Router – this function is fulfilled by DIRIGERA or compatible devices from other manufacturers.

Glass donut by a Dutch designer

The lamp’s design is by Sabine Marcelis, a Dutch designer known for her work with glass and light. VARMBLIXT has a diameter of 30 cm, and the shade is made of frosted glass, which ensures even light diffusion without harsh shadows. The construction combines ABS plastic and a powder-coated steel mounting plate.

A practical feature is the dual installation method – you can place the lamp on a table as a table lamp, or mount it on the wall. In both cases, it acts as a distinctive design element in the room.

IKEA states a lifespan of approximately 25,000 hours for the lamp. With an average of three hours of lighting per day, it should last about 20 years.

Price and availability

The VARMBLIXT lamp is available in Czech IKEA stores for 1,290 CZK, which we consider a rather pleasant amount, especially if you already own some smart gadgets from IKEA or have a competing hub that will function as the mentioned Thread Border Router.
