Swedish furniture giant IKEA has officially unveiled 21 new smart home products, all of which support the universal communication protocol Matter. This will enable their easy integration into various smart home systems. The company has thus fulfilled its summer promise to launch more than twenty devices. The new range includes a complete overhaul of the existing portfolio and is divided into three main categories – lighting, sensors, and control elements.

Complete portfolio overhaul from the ground up

With the new range, IKEA is rebuilding its entire smart home portfolio, and all products are now manufactured with native Matter support. This step means that the devices will be compatible with products from other brands and platforms such as Apple HomeKit, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa. The Swedish company is thus responding to long-standing criticism of its ecosystem’s closed nature and complicated setup.

KAJPLATS smart bulbs replace the TRÅDFRI range

The most significant new feature is the completely new KAJPLATS range of bulbs, which replaces the existing TRÅDFRI. IKEA introduced a total of 13 different variants differing in base, shape, brightness, and functions. Standard E27 bulbs will offer brightness from 470 to 1,521 lumens, with some models supporting color changing and all allowing dimming.

For smaller luminaires, IKEA has prepared compact P45 bulbs with an E14 base, 45 mm in diameter, with a brightness of 470 or 806 lumens. Spot lighting enthusiasts will appreciate GU10 reflector bulbs available in both dimmable and color-changing variants. Also noteworthy are three decorative clear glass bulbs for vintage luminaires, offering brightness from 470 to 810 lumens.

Five types of sensors for safety and comfort

IKEA introduced five smart sensors covering various aspects of the home. The MYGGSPRAY motion sensor works both indoors and outdoors and automatically turns on lights in hallways or garages. The MYGGBETT door and window sensor can send a notification when opened and can also automatically turn on the light in a wardrobe.

For air quality monitoring, the ALPSTUGA sensor measures CO2 concentration, PM2.5 particulate matter, temperature, and humidity. It can work with IKEA air purifiers and, as a bonus, displays the time. The standalone TIMMERFLOTTE sensor focuses only on temperature and humidity, while KLIPPBOK monitors water leaks under sinks or appliances.

Control elements and smart plug

For lighting control, IKEA offers BILRESA remote controls in two variants – with two buttons or with a rotary dial. Both types allow turning lights on and off, changing brightness, colors, or activating preset scenes. Sets of three controllers come in green, red, and beige.

An interesting addition is the GRILLPLATS smart plug, which can turn ordinary appliances into smart ones. In addition to remote control, it can also measure energy consumption and pair with motion sensors or controllers.

Hub requirement and Matter support

All new products require a Matter hub to function – either IKEA’s DIRIGERA or any other Matter-compatible hub. The DIRIGERA hub also functions as a Matter Bridge, ensuring compatibility of older IKEA products with the new standard. Thanks to Matter support, devices will work across various ecosystems regardless of the manufacturer.
