IKEA plans over 20 smart home devices with Matter support Home News New range of Matter-certified smart products arriving in January IKEA promises affordability and ease of use The first step was updating the DIRIGERA hub Sdílejte: Adam Kurfürst Published: 11. 7. 2025 22:30 Swedish furniture giant IKEA has announced that it will launch more than 20 new smart products supporting the universal Matter standard in January next year. This is the company’s biggest step yet towards creating an open, simple, and affordable smart home ecosystem for the general public. All new products will be built on technology that enables seamless collaboration between devices from different brands. Smart home accessible to everyone “Until now, smart home technology hasn’t been simple enough for most people to use – nor affordable enough for many to even consider. Introducing the Matter standard into our products means we are taking a big step in the right direction, offering compatibility across brands and lowering the threshold for people who want to get started. Our goal is to make smart home easy to use, understandable, and accessible for the many,” says David Granath, Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden. The first significant step forward was the update of the DIRIGERA hub, which gained support for Matter. In practice, this means it can now manage Matter-enabled devices from other brands, and as a Matter Bridge, it ensures that existing IKEA smart products will also be compatible with platforms using the Matter standard. IKEA currently has a relatively diverse portfolio of smart home products. In its catalog, you can find various types of lighting, as well as sensors and blackout blinds. The price is typically kept at consumer-friendly levels. New speakers with an emphasis on design In addition to smart products, IKEA is also preparing a significant step in the field of audio. Just this week, the elegant Bluetooth speaker NATTBAD was launched in yellow, pink, and black with a retro look reminiscent of an old radio. The price was also a pleasant surprise, as it costs 999 Kč in the local market. IKEA also announced a collaboration with Swedish designer Tekla Severin, known for her expressive approach to colors. This partnership explores how electronic devices can better fit into the home environment and combine technology with personal style. What is the Matter standard and why is it important The Matter standard represents a universal protocol for smart homes that allows devices from different manufacturers to work together seamlessly. For ordinary users, this brings significant advantages – no need to check compatibility before buying a new device, simpler setup, and the ability to combine products from different brands in one system. Thanks to Matter, there is no longer a need to use multiple different applications and hubs to control devices from various manufacturers, which significantly simplifies the use of smart homes and reduces technical barriers for ordinary users.
