After three months of silence since its June unveiling, Xiaomi finally released its Sound Party speaker to European stores. The price tag of 129.99 euros (approximately 3,200 CZK) places it in the mid-range of portable speakers, where it competes with established brands like JBL or Sony. In the Czech Republic, however, the situation is much more interesting – the official price is 1,899 crowns, which, at the current exchange rate, is significantly more advantageous than the European price.

The speaker weighs 1.2 kilograms and has dimensions of 255 × 92 × 92 millimeters. That’s roughly like a one-liter water bottle, just a bit longer. Xiaomi also thought about portability – the built-in handle is hidden in the design, so it doesn’t disrupt the aesthetics. The black finish with orange accents looks good in photos and resembles other speakers from the brand, such as the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor.

50 watts split between treble and bass

The total power of 50 W is split between a 15W tweeter and a 35W bass speaker. That’s not a bad ratio – the bass should have considerable power. Harman AudioEFX tuning promises a wider soundstage and deeper bass. The frequency range of 60 Hz to 20 kHz is standard, but the lower 60 Hz indicates that we cannot expect the deepest bass.

The Bass Boost feature, which amplifies low frequencies, is interesting. At a party, anyone who likes booming bass in electronic music will appreciate it. Of course, at the cost of shorter battery life and possible distortion at high volumes.

Battery life like a power bank with an added speaker

The 5,200 mAh battery at 7.3 V voltage lasts up to 26 hours of playback, according to Xiaomi. However, this only applies at 50% volume and with backlighting and Bass Boost mode turned off. In real party use, expect more like 8-10 hours, which is still enough for an entire party.

The speaker supports fast charging via USB-C – 10 minutes of charging provides 2 hours of playback. A full charge takes approximately 3 hours. A surprise is the power bank function with an output power of up to 15 W. In an emergency, you can charge your phone, even if it’s not the primary purpose of the device.

Party Connect connects up to a hundred speakers

What interested me most is the Party Connect feature, which synchronizes playback on up to 100 speakers simultaneously. All play the same music at the same moment without delay. This is something that competitors in this price category do not offer.

For regular use, there’s also TWS mode for stereo listening from two speakers. One plays the left channel, the other the right. Bluetooth 5.4 ensures a stable connection, and Android owners will appreciate NFC for quick pairing.

IP67 resistance and light show

IP67 certification means complete protection against dust and immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes. To the beach, by the pool, or at a festival in the rain – the Sound Party can handle it all. Just be careful with salty seawater, as it generally doesn’t agree with electronics.

Xiaomi also added visual effects – “time tunnel” backlighting creates 3D light effects synchronized with the music. It’s more of a marketing gimmick than a useful feature, but it can make an impression at a party. However, turning off the lights will extend battery life.

What do you think of Xiaomi’s new speaker?
