Anyone who hoped to install IKEA’s inexpensive smart thermostatic head on their radiators this year is unfortunately out of luck and will have to wait a few more months. IKEA LILJEBAGGE should arrive in the Czech Republic in January 2027, as IKEA itself confirmed to our editorial office. However, it will most likely cost only around four hundred, making it more attractive than many competitors.

It will arrive in the Czech Republic early next year

We first wrote about the head at the beginning of September, and at that time, it was only sold in Sweden. This week, however, reports appeared in German media about the planned arrival of the head on the neighboring market in January 2027. In response, we contacted IKEA with a query about the price and availability of the product in the Czech Republic.

“The LILJEBAGGE product is a smart thermostatic head designed for hot water radiators, which will help you easily regulate the temperature in your home and increase heating comfort and energy efficiency. In the Czech Republic, IKEA plans to start sales in January 2027. The price has not yet been set,” Tomáš Drábik, IKEA Sales Manager for Lighting, told the editorial office of Svět Androida.

Although we do not yet know the official Czech price, foreign figures offer an estimate. In Sweden, the head is available for 199 Swedish kronor, which is approximately 435 CZK when converted. According to new findings, it is heading to Germany with a price tag of 14.99 euros, which converts to roughly 365 CZK. In our country, the price could therefore be around 400 CZK.

Requires a Thread-enabled gateway for mobile control

LILJEBAGGE will replace a classic thermostatic head on a hot water radiator. It is based on the Matter over Thread standard, so you can connect it to smart homes from Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey, or Samsung. You can then set the temperature from your phone and, for example, schedule a night setback in the bedroom.

However, there’s a catch. For mobile control, you need a Thread Border Router, a device that connects the head to the rest of your home network. IKEA itself recommends its DIRIGERA gateway, which costs 1,990 CZK in the Czech e-shop. If you already have a Google Nest Hub second-generation smart display or an Apple TV 4K with Thread support at home, you’ll probably manage without it.

The head also considers limescale and frost

According to IKEA, the head will also offer several practical functions. Every two weeks, the head itself rotates the valve to prevent limescale buildup. The frost protection mode, if needed, releases a little heat into the radiator to prevent frost from damaging the pipes.

Without internet, the head will not be unresponsive. In case of a connection outage, according to the manufacturer, it maintains the last set temperature, and you can adjust it directly on the device. You will only lose remote control from your phone. Power is provided by two AA batteries, but you won’t find them directly in the package.

Will you wait for the LILJEBAGGE head, or do you already have your smart heating sorted out differently?
