Insta360 has officially unveiled its latest 360° camera, the X4 Air, which boasts a record-low weight while maintaining top-tier specifications, including 8K resolution. Weighing just 165 grams, it is the lightest 8K 360° camera in the manufacturer’s portfolio. The new product will also head to the Czech market; Alza has already listed it in its catalog with a price of 9,690 CZK and an estimated availability from November 10.

Light as a Feather, Powerful as a Flagship

The Insta360 X4 Air weighs just 165 grams, a significant reduction compared to the standard X4 model, which weighs 203 grams. However, the low weight does not mean compromises in features – the camera is equipped with a pair of 1/1.8″ sensors, which are larger than the 1/2″ chips in the X4 model. In practice, this means a 134% larger pixel area when shooting 8K video, resulting in better image quality, especially in daylight.

The new model can record 360° video in 8K resolution at 30 frames per second, or 6K at 50 fps for smoother fast-action shots. In single-lens mode, it offers 4K video at 60 fps with a wide 170° field of view. An interesting feature is the InstaFrame Mode, which simultaneously records regular flat video ready for sharing and full 360° video for later editing.

Smart Features for Better Imaging

The X4 Air introduces several technologies to improve recording quality. The AdaptiveTone feature automatically analyzes light from both lenses independently, balancing brightness, colors, and contrast across the entire 360° image. Active HDR mode, now available up to 8K30fps, extends the dynamic range to preserve details in both highlights and shadows.

For shooting people, the camera offers Portrait Mode, which automatically detects faces and subtly adjusts skin tones without the need for post-production. Improved algorithms also ensure better results in low-light conditions – evening shots from streets or markets come out cleaner with less noise than with the previous model.

Durable Design with Interchangeable Lenses

One of the biggest advantages of the X4 Air is its interchangeable lenses, adopted from the professional X5 model. If a lens gets scratched or cracked, it can be replaced with a new one in seconds without needing to send the camera for service. Furthermore, the lenses themselves have 2× higher drop resistance than those on the X4 model, thanks to a new ultra-hard optical coating.

The camera is waterproof up to 15 meters without an additional case, which is a significant improvement over the 10 meters of the X4. The built-in wind guard effectively suppresses wind noise for clearer audio, with an improved algorithm that works even at high speeds. The 2,010 mAh battery lasts up to 88 minutes of continuous 8K30fps recording.

Comparison with X4 and X5 Models

Compared to the standard X4 model, the Air version offers several improvements while maintaining a lower price. In addition to the already mentioned lower weight (165g vs 203g) and larger sensors, it also features more advanced image processing functions such as AdaptiveTone and Portrait Mode. Advantages include interchangeable lenses and better waterproofing.

Compared to the flagship X5 model, the X4 Air is lighter (165g vs 200g) but has smaller sensors (1/1.8″ vs 1/1.28″). The X5 also offers a special PureVideo mode for exceptional quality in low light and longer battery life in power-saving mode. Both models share interchangeable lenses and built-in wind protection for the microphone.

Who is the X4 Air for?

The Insta360 X4 Air primarily targets travelers, vloggers, and casual users who want to capture their experiences in 360 degrees without complicated setup. Its low weight and compact dimensions make it an ideal companion for trips, family events, or sports activities. Thanks to AI editing tools in the mobile app, dynamic videos with music and transitions can be quickly created from 360° footage.

The camera will also be available in the Czech Republic in two color variants – Graphite Black with a matte finish for outdoor enthusiasts and Arctic White for those who prefer a more elegant, light appearance.
