McConaughey and Harrelson are back. Apple TV is preparing a comedy about them possibly being brothers

Apple TV has several series that genuinely make people subscribe. Now it’s trying to add another piece to this category: the comedy Brothers, in which Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reunite after years. And they play themselves in it.

Two Actors, One Family Secret

The plot is based on a rather unusual idea. McConaughey and Harrelson portray fictional versions of themselves, and their long-standing friendship crumbles when they stumble upon a decades-old secret – they might actually be brothers.

It kicks off after Woody’s daughter’s engagement falls through, and he moves with his entire family to Matthew’s ranch in Austin. What was supposed to be a healing retreat takes a turn when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac (played by Holland Taylor), accidentally spills information she had kept under wraps for years. While Woody turns the ranch upside down searching for the truth, Matthew deals with his own identity crisis – he’s considering running for Governor of Texas.

The duo is not accidental, after all. Both actors starred together in the first season of True Detective, and their joint appearances are something viewers are familiar with even off-screen.

The Script is Penned by a Person from The Office

The showrunner is Lee Eisenberg, who worked as a writer and producer on the second to sixth seasons of the American version of The Office, a period generally considered the strongest. This alone is a solid credential and likely why Apple is pushing the project to the forefront.

When and Where to Watch It

Brothers premieres on Wednesday, September 23 with two episodes, with additional episodes released weekly until November 4. In addition, Apple TV will launch a new season of Slow Horses, the crime thriller Last Seen, and the film Mayday starring Ryan Reynolds in September.

An Apple TV subscription costs 199 Czech crowns per month in the Czech Republic; you can get it cheaper as part of the Apple One bundle. It can be watched on Android phones, smart TVs, and via the web, so it’s not tied to Apple hardware.
