New POCO phones are around the corner! They will offer top-tier performance and a gigantic battery

  • Poco X8 Pro Max appeared in benchmarks with the Dimensity 9500s chip even before its global launch on March 17
  • Single-core performance surpasses older flagship chips, but lags behind the current top-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 by more than 10%
  • The expected price of around €529 (approximately 13,000 CZK) places the phone in a category where it will have to justify every penny

Poco X8 Pro Max hasn’t even been officially introduced yet, and we already know more about it than Xiaomi would like. Several entries have appeared on Geekbench under the model designation 2602BPC18G, which clearly refers to the upcoming novelty with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s chipset. And the results? They are excellent.

Dimensity 9500s: a flagship chip

In Geekbench 6 tests, the Poco X8 Pro Max scored an average of 2,673 points in the single-core and 8,471 points in the multi-core test. At first glance, these are decent numbers, surpassing older flagship chips like the Dimensity 9400 and Dimensity 9400 Plus. However, the context is unforgiving – the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which powers devices like the OnePlus 15R, is more than 10% ahead in the single-core test and pulls even further ahead in multi-core performance.

The Dimensity 9500s is a cut-down version of the full-fledged Dimensity 9500, which competes with Snapdragon much more confidently. While the full 9500 achieves around 3,500 points in single-core and over 10,000 in multi-core, its “s” variant has lower clock frequencies: the main Cortex-X925 core runs at 3.73 GHz instead of 4.21 GHz, the performance trio of Cortex-X4 at 3.30 GHz instead of 3.5 GHz. The power-efficient Cortex-A720 cores then operate at 2.40 GHz. The manufacturing process remains 3nm from TSMC, and graphics are handled by the Mali-G925 Immortalis.

What we know about the features: a giant battery and Android 16

Geekbench records confirm 12 GB RAM and the Android 16 operating system, meaning the phone will run HyperOS 3 right out of the box. According to previous leaks, this should be the only memory configuration, with storage offering either 256 GB or 512 GB of UFS 4.1 type.

The rest of the specifications are drawn from a leaked full datasheet. The Poco X8 Pro Max is expected to feature a 6.83″ OLED display with 1.5K resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and brightness up to 2,000 nits. The main camera will be a 50Mpx Light Hunter 600 with optical stabilization, complemented by an 8Mpx wide-angle lens. On the front, expect a 32Mpx selfie camera.

However, the real highlight is expected to be the battery. According to leaks, the capacity ranges between 7,550 and 8,500 mAh, with newer sources even mentioning 9,000 mAh with support for 100W wired charging. Add to that IP68/IP69K resistance, an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, and an infrared port – on paper, the X8 Pro Max looks like a truly packed package.

Price: a flagship killer for flagship money?

The Poco X8 Pro Max is expected to start at €529 for the 256 GB variant in the global market, with the 512 GB version costing approximately €579. Converted to Czech crowns, this is around 13,000 to 14,300 CZK, although the final Czech price may vary.

Global launch approaching: March 17

Xiaomi confirmed the upcoming global launch of the Poco X Pro series on March 4, but did not specify a date. According to current leaks, the Poco X8 Pro Max is expected to go on global sale on March 17, 2026. Along with it, the cheaper Poco X8 Pro will also arrive, featuring the Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, a smaller 6.59″ display, and a battery with a capacity of around 6,500 mAh.

Both devices are essentially global versions of the Chinese models Redmi Turbo 5 and Turbo 5 Max. Poco will add its own software modifications and likely slightly adjusted batteries.

How excited are you for the new POCO phones?
