If you’ve ever wondered if it makes sense to pay over 5,000 for a smart toothbrush, now you have a chance to find out at a reasonable price. The Oral-B iO9 drops on Alza with code ALZADNY40 to 4,614 CZK.

16 tracking zones – the toothbrush knows where you’re slacking

The main advantage of the iO9 over cheaper models is 16-zone brushing tracking. While standard smart toothbrushes only track 6 areas (upper/lower, left/middle/right), the iO9 distinguishes individual tooth surfaces – outer, inner, and chewing.

In practice, the toothbrush communicates with the app on your phone via Bluetooth and shows in real-time where you are currently brushing. After brushing, you receive a score and an overview of neglected areas. The app remembers your history, so over time, you can see if you’re improving.

The problem? Tracking accuracy is not 100%, especially for left-handers. Sometimes the toothbrush thinks you’re brushing different teeth than you actually are. Czech reviews on Alza confirm this – “occasionally misreads toothbrush position” is a common complaint. For perfectionists, this can be frustrating.

OLED display and pressure sensor

Unlike position tracking, the color OLED display is truly useful. You can see the name of the selected mode (not just an icon), the remaining brushing time, and the battery status in percentages. After brushing, an emoticon evaluating the brushing quality is displayed.

The three-level pressure sensor lights up green for correct pressure, white when you’re pressing too lightly, and red for too much pressure. This is a feature you’ll appreciate especially at first – it helps build the correct habit and protect gums from damage.

The toothbrush offers 7 brushing modes, including a super sensitive one for problematic gums or tongue cleaning.

Battery life – the Achilles’ heel of the premium model

Paradoxically, the biggest weakness of the most expensive model is its battery life of only 12 days. This is half compared to regular toothbrushes and a third compared to some competitors. The culprit is likely the color display, which often activates with accidental movement.

Who is a smart toothbrush for?

Let’s be honest – you don’t need smart features for perfectly clean teeth. A basic Oral-B Pro 3 for a thousand CZK will clean teeth almost as well. The difference lies in motivation and feedback.

Verdict: A premium gadget for the price of a regular toothbrush

At its regular price of around 7,000 CZK, I wouldn’t recommend the Oral-B iO9 – the price/performance ratio is poor. But for 4,614 CZK with the code? That’s an interesting offer. You get top-notch brushing technology, a useful pressure sensor, and for some, motivating gamification.

Just keep in mind that iO replacement brush heads cost around 200 CZK (double that of regular Oral-B brush heads) and you’ll need to charge it more often than cheaper models. If these compromises don’t deter you, now is the ideal time to buy.
