When OnePlus introduced the 13R model in January for 19,000, it looked like a reasonable alternative to the more expensive thirteen. Now, with the price dropped to 12,290 CZK on Heureka (or 12,341 CZK on Alza with code ALZADNY5), it’s suddenly a completely different league. For this price, you get a phone with the performance of last year’s flagships and battery life that the competition can only dream of.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at a mid-range price

The main trump card of OnePlus 13R is simple – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The same chip that powered last year’s flagship Samsung Galaxy S24 or Xiaomi 14 Ultra. For 12,000, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything more powerful, perhaps only the POCO F7 with Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, but that has worse cameras.

In benchmarks, it achieves a score of around 1.8 million points in AnTuTu, which is almost double what phones with Dimensity 7300 or Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 in this price category can manage (with exceptions like the aforementioned POCO). In practice, this means PUBG can run at 120 fps, Genshin Impact runs smoothly at high details, and multitasking with 12 GB RAM is absolutely seamless.

The phone also has 256GB UFS 4.0 storage – no speed throttling due to slower memory. You’ll appreciate this when installing large games or transferring files.

Two days of battery life is not a utopia

OnePlus bet on a 6000mAh battery and it paid off. With normal use (social media, YouTube, photos), the phone can easily last two days. Even on a more demanding day with 6 hours of screen time, you end up with 25% battery in the evening.

Charging is still fast – 80W SuperVOOC charges the phone in 55 minutes. It’s not a record (last year’s 12R was 15 minutes faster), but still better than most competitors.

Wireless charging is missing, which might deter some. While competing Pixel 9a or Galaxy A56 have it, they come with half the battery and performance.

Display and design – modern, but not for everyone

OnePlus switched to a flat 6.78″ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2780 × 1264 pixels. Brightness up to 6000 nits (realistically around 1800 nits) ensures perfect readability even in sunlight. The panel supports 120 Hz, HDR10+, and features Aqua Touch 2.0 technology for wet-hand operation.

The flat-edged design looks modern, but it’s not as comfortable as its rounded predecessors. The phone weighs 206 grams, and you can feel the sharp edges in your palm. The matte glass back in Astral Trail color with concentric circles around the camera looks premium and doesn’t collect fingerprints.

The IP65 certification (protection against dust and splashing water) and an IR sensor for TV control are welcome. The Alert slider on the left side remains – quick switching of sound modes is still useful.

Cameras – main good, rest average

The cameras are the biggest compromise of the OnePlus 13R. The 50Mpx main sensor with OIS takes surprisingly good photos – daytime shots are sharp, with good dynamic range. At night, it automatically extends exposure, and the results are solid even without night mode.

The new 50Mpx telephoto lens with 2× zoom is a useful addition, especially for portraits. The quality is decent in good light; in worse conditions, the difference compared to the main sensor is noticeable.

The problem is the 8Mpx ultrawide lens – the same one as in last year’s model. Photos are soft, noisy, and color-inconsistent with other cameras. Video only handles 1080p, which feels outdated in 2025.

OxygenOS 15 – fast, but with AI at half throttle

The phone runs on Android 15 with OxygenOS 15. The system is fast, fluid, and offers many customization options. OnePlus promises 4 major updates and 6 years of security patches – not as generous as Samsung or Google, but still decent.

AI features are present but not as sophisticated as those of the competition. You get AI object removal from photos, AI chat responses, or website summaries. Most of these work via the cloud, not locally. Share to iPhone is an interesting feature for sharing files with an iPhone, but it requires installing a special application.

A clear choice for 12,000

The OnePlus 13R at its original 19,000 was a solid phone. At 12,290 CZK, it’s the best buy in the mid-range segment. You get flagship performance, two-day battery life, a quality display, and a decent main camera.

If you’re not looking for the absolute best camera and can do without wireless charging, you won’t find a better phone for this money right now. Just hurry – it won’t last long at this price.
