Most cheap Wi-Fi 7 routers have the same catch: they lack the 6 GHz band, which is the main thing the new standard brings. TP-Link Archer BE550 now costs 3,899 CZK with code ALZADNY25, and with cashback even 3,399 CZK – and it’s a true tri-band router with everything that belongs to Wi-Fi 7.

Five 2.5 Gbps ports are a rarity at this price

This is the main thing that foreign reviewers highlight almost unanimously. While the vast majority of routers have gigabit LAN ports, the BE550 has all five ports at 2.5 Gbps – one WAN and four LAN. Home Office Research server summarized it simply: every wired connection is multi-gigabit, so computers, NAS, or consoles are not limited by a gigabit ceiling. Gaming PC Guru adds that precisely four 2.5Gb ports are more important for gamers than USB, which is missing here.

The second crucial thing is the 6 GHz band. It is practically empty, so neighbors won’t interfere with you, and with 320MHz channels, it offers double the bandwidth compared to Wi-Fi 6E. The total throughput reaches 9,214 Mb/s divided among three bands (574 + 2,880 + 5,760 Mb/s).

The third technology mentioned by reviewers is Multi-Link Operation (MLO). Compatible devices use it to utilize multiple bands simultaneously for a single connection – in practice, this means lower latency and resilience against outages when one band is temporarily overloaded. All three bands transmit under a single network name, and the device automatically selects the fastest available one.

Mesh, VPN, and parental control included

The router supports both EasyMesh and OneMesh, so you can expand it with additional nodes over time or integrate existing repeaters into the network – creating a single, seamless network without manual switching. Home Office Research also highlights the VPN features: a built-in server for both OpenVPN and WireGuard, plus client modes, which is not a given for routers at this price point.

It also features parental control, QoS for device prioritization, IPTV support, voice control via Alexa and Google Assistant, and a practical night mode for LED indicators, so the router doesn’t blink in the bedroom. The package includes an Ethernet cable and a power adapter, and signal propagation is handled by two external and six internal antennas.

Where are the limits

Reviewers agree on three things. Firstly, the USB port is missing, so you cannot connect a disk for file sharing to the router. Secondly, the coverage of around 185 m² corresponds to an apartment or a smaller house – for a large house, you will need to purchase a mesh node. Thirdly, the HomeShield security suite offers its best features behind a subscription, although basic protection and QoS work for free.

Technical note for the meticulous: the 5GHz band runs in a 2×2 configuration instead of 4×4, which some more expensive Wi-Fi 6 routers have – Blacktubi therefore measured slightly lower speeds on the 5 GHz band than with top models of the previous generation. However, on the 6 GHz band, the performance according to his test is approximately double.
