Samsung Galaxy S22 series receives its final Android update in Europe along with One UI 8

While newer devices like the Galaxy S25 or recently updated Galaxy S23 models already benefit from the latest One UI 8 overlay based on Android 16, the three-year-old Galaxy S22 series is finally getting its turn. As noted by the well-known informant Tarun Vats, the update is already rolling out in European countries.

Last Major Update for Galaxy S22

For users of Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra smartphones, this is a significant update, but it also represents the last major Android operating system update. Phones launched in 2022 with Android 12 and One UI 4 have now received their fourth and likely final major system update. Samsung promised four major OS updates when this series was introduced, and it has now fulfilled that promise.

The update, labeled S90xBXXUIGYI7, is approximately 3.2 GB in size and also includes security patches from September 2025. Thanks to this, Galaxy S22 owners will receive all the new features that One UI 8 brings, including an improved user interface, better optimization, and other AI-based functionalities.

What’s Next? One UI 8.5 Update is Uncertain

Although Galaxy S22 models have received their last major Android update, they will continue to receive security updates for at least another two years. What remains unclear, however, is whether these phones will also receive the upcoming One UI 8.5 update, which is currently being tested. Its release is expected in early 2026 along with the launch of the Galaxy S26 flagships.

Although One UI 8.5 will technically still be based on Android 16, it’s not certain whether Samsung will bring this smaller, yet still relatively significant, update to the S22 series. The South Korean giant has not yet officially commented on this matter.

If you are using one of the Galaxy S22 models, you can check for update availability in Settings. If the option to update has not yet appeared for you, it will likely suffice to wait a few days.
