Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge might get rid of its predecessor's biggest problem (right after the high price)

Popular leaker Ice Universe came with a not-so-surprising revelation regarding Samsung’s next ultra-thin flagship model. According to his information, the Galaxy S26 Edge will be even thinner than the current model, but at the same time will offer a larger battery. This apparent paradox should be possible thanks to new battery material technology, which the South Korean manufacturer is reportedly working on.

Thinner, yet more powerful

The current Galaxy S25 Edge boasts an impressive thickness of just 5.8 mm, making it one of the thinnest smartphones on the market. Unfortunately, this extremely thin design took its toll in the form of a smaller battery, which has a capacity of only 3,900 mAh. This is significantly less than the S25+ and S25 Ultra models, which negatively affected the phone’s battery life, as confirmed by tests.

For comparison, the current Galaxy S25 Edge features a 3,900 mAh battery with 25W charging support, while the Galaxy S25+ has a 4,900 mAh battery with 45W charging support. If Samsung managed to bring the Edge model’s battery capacity closer to this value while maintaining or even reducing thickness, it would be a significant technological achievement.

Replacement for the Plus model

According to long-standing speculation, the Galaxy S26 Edge is set to completely replace the Plus variant in the classic Galaxy S series next year. Samsung is reportedly re-evaluating its product strategy due to persistently weak sales of Plus models, which are positioned between the base and Ultra variants in terms of price and size.

This step is all the more interesting given that, according to recent reports from Korean media, even the Galaxy S25 Edge is not selling as expected. The Elec even reported that Samsung significantly reduced production of this model just a month after its launch, which is unusually early. However, improved battery life could be precisely the factor that helps the next generation succeed.

When can we expect the official unveiling?

Samsung usually introduces its flagship Galaxy S series in January or February, so we will have to wait approximately another half a year for the Galaxy S26 Edge. However, we can expect more leaks as the launch date approaches, and we will learn more details. Preliminarily, we can count on a new generation chipset and likely additional AI features.
