Samsung Galaxy S26 Pro won't happen after all? The flagship series is apparently returning to its original form

Weeks of speculation that Samsung would rename the base Galaxy S26 model to Galaxy S26 Pro are apparently over. The SamMobile server, citing its own sources, states that the base model will carry the simple designation Galaxy S26 without any suffixes. The South Korean manufacturer will thus avoid copying Apple and maintain the traditional naming of its flagship series.

SamMobile sources refute Pro model speculation

According to SamMobile, no Galaxy S26 Pro exists, and Samsung is preparing the smallest model without an additional designation. And as we recently learned, Samsung stopped the development of the Galaxy S26 Edge model, so the next series will include the traditional trio – the base version, Plus, and Ultra.

SamMobile believes that speculation about the Pro suffix never made much sense. While the smallest Galaxy S series models offer rich features, they don’t receive enough improvements to justify a name change. The server specifically mentions that the Galaxy S26 will use the same camera sensors as the Galaxy S25 and, in many regions, will get the Exynos 2600 chipset instead of Snapdragon.

According to SamMobile, the only significant improvement for the base model is expected to be a larger battery with a capacity of 4,300 mAh compared to the current 4,000 mAh.

S26 series launch may be significantly delayed

Let’s recall that the Greek server TechManiacs recently reported on a possible postponement of the entire Galaxy S26 series launch until March 2026. Instead of the traditional January Unpacked event, the new devices could be unveiled two months later. The reason is said to be problems with the development and design of the base model, while the development of the Galaxy S26 Ultra is reportedly practically complete.

TechManiacs also stated that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will finally get a 10-bit display with a billion colors and faster 60W charging. Under the hood, it will feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12 GB of RAM.

Samsung apparently intends to play it safe

If Samsung ever truly considered releasing a Galaxy S26 Pro instead of the base model and replacing the well-known Plus variant with another slim experiment, everything now indicates that the South Korean giant will rather play it safe. Despite all possible rumors of drastic changes, we will most likely witness the unveiling of the traditional three-member family of flagship smartphones this time as well.
