Samsung is considering expanding its range of wearable electronics with entirely new types of products. According to information from the CNN server, which is based on an interview with Won-joon Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile R&D Office at Samsung, the South Korean manufacturer could focus on smart earrings, necklaces, or other types of jewelry in the future. They represent another step in the global trend of developing devices controlled by artificial intelligence.

Wearable electronics in a new form

According to Samsung, the ideal device actively relying on AI should be wearable –⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠ conversely, it should definitely not be a product that needs to be carried around. “It could be something you wear – glasses, earrings, watches, rings, and sometimes necklaces,” Won-joon Choi specified for CNN. According to him, Samsung is actively exploring all possibilities in the field of wearable electronics, which should function as an accessory to a mobile phone, not as a standalone device.

This strategy corresponds to Samsung’s current approach, which already offers Galaxy Watch smartwatches and the Galaxy Ring. Unlike some competing products, such as the controversial Humane AI Pin or Rabbit R1, Samsung does not want to create devices that would completely replace a smartphone.

Artificial intelligence as a key element

In the interview, Choi emphasized that advanced artificial intelligence will enable the arrival of a new wave of devices that will allow users to communicate and perform tasks faster without needing to take out their phone.

Tech giants including Samsung see great potential in the combination of AI and wearable devices. Meta has already sold over 2 million units of its Ray-Ban AI glasses, while Samsung, Google, and Snap are working on their own smart glasses. Samsung refers to its project by the code name Haean and it is expected to be introduced later this year. Apple has also had a successful debut with its AR/VR device.

It is not yet clear what specific functions smart earrings or necklaces might offer. However, we can assume that it will be a combination of health functions, notifications, and control elements optimized for the given type of device. Samsung could also leverage its experience with connecting various devices within the ecosystem, as it already does with its watches and ring.

Samsung has already successfully released its first smart ring

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Ring in some markets last year, and it reached us at the beginning of this year. The ring allows for heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and skin temperature measurement and represents an alternative to smartwatches with fewer functions but greater wearing comfort and longer battery life.

As our review showed, the Galaxy Ring is characterized by quality craftsmanship and the ability to measure various health parameters including sleep. Its advantages also include long battery life of up to 7 days (depending on size) and the ability to control the phone using a finger gesture.

According to speculation, Samsung is already intensely working on the Galaxy Ring 2, but we are unlikely to see it this year. A debut alongside the Galaxy S26 flagships at the beginning of next year is more probable.
