Few tablets can profile themselves as clearly as the TCL NXTPAPER 14, which is now available on Alza for 8,392 CZK after applying the code ALZADNY20 (originally 10,490 CZK). Its main draw is neither performance nor camera — but a 14.3-inch matte display that can mimic ordinary paper with its surface finish. In addition, the price includes an active T-Pen stylus and a flip case.

Quick summary:
Makes sense if you’re looking for a large tablet primarily for reading, note-taking, working with documents, or perhaps as a sheet music reader — a matte display is simply in a different league.
⚠️ Consider that the MediaTek Helio G99 chip is rather average — competitors in a similar price range offer significantly more powerful hardware. It’s not an ideal choice for gaming and demanding multitasking.
💡 For 8,392 CZK you get a 14.3″ display with 2400 × 1600 resolution, 256GB storage, 8 GB RAM, a 10,000mAh battery with 33W charging, four speakers, and the aforementioned pen and case included in the package.

The display people buy it for

NXTPAPER 3.0 technology is clearly the main reason why this tablet is worth mentioning on the market. The matte finish doesn’t glare, which users appreciate in reviews, especially when reading outdoors — one of them bought it as a digital sheet music folder and, according to them, can read notes without problems in bright sunlight. The tablet offers three display modes — classic color, color paper mode for comics and magazines, and finally, an ink mode that imitates an e-ink reader. However, it’s fair to mention that some users expected an experience closer to classic e-readers and were subjectively disappointed — TCL’s ink paper is not a Kindle, and you shouldn’t compare it to an E INK reader, for example.

What to expect

The heart of the tablet is the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, which, to be fair, is the weaker side of the entire package. In competition around ten thousand [CZK], you’ll get tablets with significantly more powerful processors — whether from Qualcomm or MediaTek — and the Helio G99 will limit you in more demanding games or during intensive multitasking. However, it’s sufficient for regular office work, reading, and video streaming, and users generally don’t complain about it. The second recurring criticism in reviews is the user interface not being adapted to the large display — according to one reviewer, the icon grid on such a huge tablet is unnecessarily small, and the system feels more like an enlarged phone. A memory card slot and headphone jack are also missing, which some will miss.

On the other hand, the 10,000mAh battery is among the best you’ll find in this category, and reverse charging from the tablet to a phone is a nice bonus. According to users, the four speakers play loud enough but lack proper bass — one reviewer aptly described them as “a bit tinny”.

Are you tempted by a matte display for reading and notes, or are you still loyal to classic e-ink readers?
