TCL has unveiled a new flagship series of X11L televisions in China, targeting the most demanding users with peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits and a record number of local dimming zones. The new models utilize SQD-Mini LED technology, which, according to the manufacturer, surpasses existing RGB-Mini LED panels in color separation and the elimination of color artifacts.

Three sizes with different features

The X11L series comes in three diagonals – 75, 85, and 98 inches. While the smallest 75-inch version costs 19,999 yuan in China (approximately 58,000 CZK converted), the mid-range 85-inch model will cost 34,999 yuan (about 101,000 CZK) and features 14,400 local dimming zones. The flagship 98-inch variant for 59,999 yuan (approximately 174,000 CZK) even offers 20,736 dimming zones, which TCL claims is the highest number used in Mini LED TVs.

All models feature 4K resolution and support peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits, which, however, they only achieve at peak when displaying HDR content. The TVs cover 100% of the BT.2020 color space and boast professional color accuracy with a Delta E value below 0.99.

New SQD-Mini LED technology

TCL has opted for its proprietary SQD-Mini LED technology, which more effectively separates individual subpixels than existing RGB-Mini LED panels. The result is the elimination of color artifacts at the edges of objects and the possibility of creating a thinner TV profile. The panel utilizes a new butterfly-wing-shaped LCD structure with an anti-reflective coating and offers viewing angles exceeding 178 degrees.

The TVs support all modern HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and IMAX Enhanced. Image processing is handled by the MediaTek 9655+ processor, supplemented by the TCL TSR AI chip, which reduces noise, interpolates frames, and reconstructs details at the individual pixel level in real time.

Gaming features and premium sound

For gamers, TCL has prepared four HDMI 2.1 ports with support for 4K at 144 Hz and MEMC technology for motion smoothing. Also included are Wi-Fi 6, a USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, and an optical audio output.

The sound is handled by an audio system tuned by Bang & Olufsen. The setup includes a pair of bass drivers, a central channel, and front-facing stereo speakers directed towards the viewer. TCL guarantees a wide soundstage and clear audio even at high volumes without distortion.

Will the TVs come to us?

TCL has not yet announced whether the X11L series will reach global markets, including Europe, so we can only speculate whether they will ever make it to our region. However, on the local market, they would cost significantly more – they are already very expensive by Chinese standards – and could thus be considered ultra-premium models competing with the best models from Samsung or LG.

What do you think of the new TCL TVs?
